After Venator kills a character he goes on a rant how he wants to kill and purify Earth from gay people?

"Nice try. Sodom will burn. Gomorrah will fall. I am the flood that washes the earth clean. [clears throat] No one is going to stop me. I won't stop until all of them are dead. A ventor shows no mercy. I have my orders. The righteous have nothing to fear from me. A ventor will not be denied. The tide will be paid in blood. My resolve is endless. My work will not be deterred. The battle isn't over yet. Death to the wicked. Their death will save lives. Do not mourn them. There are no innocents here. They picked aside and now they will reap what they sowed. Let me be stained by the blood of the wicked. I will not waver. Eternal rest be unto them, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon them."

The story is of Sodom and Gomorrah has a big history of being used against gay people by the christian church.

Valve was always silent about LGBT in their games, but why would you add a character that uses a story from the bible used against LGBT people for centuries and then calls them wicked? This is a fucking disgrace.

There's many references that could have been added to show he is a priest, but this one one chosen? And when he kills?..

The character is set up as a zealot, Zealots be what they are, i don't think it incites hate or anything like it.

Antagonists in movies and games CAN be controversial in order to emphasize the fact that they ARE the antagonist.

it's like being mad at a ww2 movie because of depictions of SS symbology or swastika's, they're there to imply them being the antagonist.
Obviously there is a limit but i think Valve stayed well within the limit, the character isn't 'anti lgbt' per its design choice especially if only this is the only example you have issues with.

This is a big stretch.Sodom’s sin being homosexuality is a rather recent interpretation that was established in 20th century. In a more traditional interpretation Sodom and Gomorrah are “cradles of sin, lust, evil and wickedness of man” with no explicit focus on homosexuality being the “primary” sin of the list, it’s more so “unnatural sex” which can be interpreted in many ways. I think it makes sense that a religious morally gray character would use biblical metaphors in his lines, which in this case refer to a more universal sin of people of Sodom and Gomorrah rather than just one aspect of it.

What a stretch lmao is this a joke? Obviously if you preface it with those lines and tell people this is a monologue its different but did you think every single one of his lines connect exactly the way you want them to? How self centered to critisize this without any self reflection and critical thinking

Yeah I don't know what they were thinking with this. Valve is clearly interested in getting queer people into deadlock since they made pocket nonbinary and a whole bunch of the other characters are queer coded but now every time I play the game I have to hear a preist screaming about "purging sinners" and ranting about sodom at me.
I've mourned friends because they were branded as abominations and serially abused by people screaming this stuff constantly, I dont want to hear it directed at me in a video game.

Stories exist as reflections of the world and the people telling them, you can't make art without any form of real world implications.
If every work of fiction required real world implications within them then why bother writing fiction?

Works of fiction are just that. Fiction. If you need references to the real world then it might not be media you should be consuming.

Religious trauma exists, "Crusader deus vult" chuds have been harassing queer people on the internet for a decade. The sodom line specifically is in extremely bad taste for a character who the writers don't write as "the bad guy"

yeah, i think that line should be replaced, maybe the devs should apologize? i don't care as long as its gone.

Grow up kiddo cartoon characters voice lines can't hurt you.

They don't "require" real world implications, they literally cannot be made without real world implications. Everything exists within context. There isnt a work of fiction in existance that just sprang up out of nowhere with no implications.

"ItS jUsT a JoKe BrO"

Everything published has meaning, everything published is political, everything published is art.
words have to mean things, or there is no point in speaking.

When a character who isnt portrayed as a villain or in the wrong for doing so says them, it's an issue. It's not that homophobic characters existing is wrong, it's the framing that's the problem.
They don't even have to be textually portrayed as the villain if its truly a setting thing, but the creator of the work has to be making a statement by the absence of condemnation.

I am going to assume you are in good faith. Sodom and Gomorrah according to the Wikipedia, homosexuality is brought up as God becoming angry and punishing people, more so by the Quran. Venator is Christian, and Christanity "debates the relative importance of sexual immortality versus violent, inhospitable behavior" in regards to Sodom and Gomorrah. There were accounts of violent actions, including rape. Clearly according to wiki there is debate on which vices/sins are worth moral condemnation. Which, speaking of the act of balance and measure, Venator clearly is forgiving and looks past the sins and vices that Silver does. He does say "I don't care if you look like a monster, if you act like one, I will put you down".

Therefore, considering the fact he's Christian and how he is in game, this is not going to be a cause of him wanting death for homosexuals? What the hell? Again - it does not impact how they act in a FICTIONAL universe. You are moralising a FICTIONAL character. We can't write for example Darth Vader because he's a space genocider? Else it's going to inspire people? It's in its own world.

Religion is only relevant to a character's identity which is the venator, which again, is about being tolerant but not tolerating pure evil. It is not about killing homosexuals. And even if he was? Again - that is a fictional character. Seven is a pyschopath who kills people. If you think a conservative is crazy to morally grandstand about games causing real world harm... I mean... yeah.

Please do not bring LGBT politics and be inaccurate about the subject matter. Do not be the reason why we can't have this game for ourselves. Just go play something else man. Or better yet, be willing to call out other religions for homophobia - the wikipedia clearly shows this with Sodom and Gomorrah. Or are you going to pick and choose? Either way - it is not relevant to Deadlock, so go away - there is no business here.
