Watcher's Ward

Had a good long break from Deadlock and returned a month ago love everything that is happening to the game. Me and my friends talked about why there wasn't any "Ward / Spy" items in the game. We discussed back and forth a lot of the pros and cons and how the game normally plays out.

We had an idea of adding a good ol' ward to the game to help you maintain vision on gank routes or your camps. It's a normal low tier - mid tier item that you would use mostly in the lane phase to keep your ganks clear or to keep your camps clear of enemies. It could also help in a lot of other potential ambushes etc or help keep an eye on potential attacks while farming in the enemy camps.

What we kind of had in mind of an item would be:

Watcher’s Charm (Green)

+125 Bonus Health

Active (120s)

Place a Watcher Ward at target location. The ward lasts 180s and reveals a 20 - 40m radius area.

  • Max 1 Ward active at a time.
  • If destroyed, it triggers a 1 minute cooldown before you can place another.
  • When destroyed, the enemy hero is slowed by -30% Move Speed for 3 - 5s.
  • When destroyed, it also pings your minimap.

Upgrades To:
  • Seer’s Totem

Seer’s Totem (Green)

+375 Bonus Health
+3 Out of Combat Regen

Active (120s)

Place a Watcher Ward at target location. The ward lasts 180s and reveals a 20 - 40m radius area.

  • Max 1 (2?) Ward(s) active at a time.
  • If destroyed, it triggers a 1 minute cooldown before you can place another.
  • When destroyed, the enemy hero is slowed by -30% Move Speed for 3 - 5s.
  • When destroyed, it also pings you / your allies minimap.

Wards.

Yeah. . . no. As much as I understand the utility of having vision, it always turns one person into the ward bitch, and I'm not sold on Deadlock needing wards. Between audio queues and using high ground to get vision of the area around you, Vision on the map is not something that really needs extra tools. MOST MOBAs have them, which is fine. Deadlock is NOT LIKE most MOBAs, so it's OK for it not to have something that others have.

I get that Deadlock doesn't need that much of vision as other MOBA's. That still doesn't mean having that extra vision when you are laning or camp stealing is a bad thing and can help out better plays.

I am no fan of LoL or Dota for that matter. I love deadlock really one my favorite games. I would love to have that extra vision to close some factors off or adding some new.

Personally I would love to see them so you can have more information on what is going on in your neutral zones while laning or ganking etc.

Everyone has their own playstyle. If they want to be a "ward bitch" let them. It only benefits the team. Also since it's only a mid tier upgrade it's going to be replaced later on anyways as you enter the late game for more beneficial items.

The problem with a vision item like this is that it completely changes how you itemize and how you path around the map. Just the fact that it exists means that you have to assume the enemy will have it and/ or have vision in certain good "ward" spots. So you can't walk out move there because you'll be showing yourself to the enemy.

I appreciate the desire to have some extra vision to cover you while you steal the enemy jungle, but i think having an item in Deadlock like this will just make it that much safer for people to farm and turtle, which will slow the overall pace of the game. Its not worth the cost to how it would affect gameplay as a whole, imo.

I don't think it will slow the game at all. It's a visible ward (Of course it could be placed obscurely) but it can be shot. Sure it will ping the map saying that your ward was taken out and the enemy will get a slow but if it was taken out by range they won't know who, how many or from where just that it was destroyed.

It's just suggestion and a personal opinion. Some likes to use Infuser other likes to use Leech. It really just how you like to play and then adapt to the situation. There might be a ward you would have to destroym miss it and get spotted by the enemy team
