The Alcoholic Alchemist: St. Germain
Tags: Area Denial, Area Attack, Alcohol
I'm sorry for the poor quality. I thought of this in an evening.
Lore
St. Karl Germain was given the title of Saint by the Alchemy Bureau alongside others for his incredible achievements. Known by most European alchemy societies as both a genius and an unrepentant drunk.
He has done what most budding mages and potion brewers only dream of: creating an Elixir of Youth, turning lead into gold, and breaking the law of equivalent exchange and he would tell you how, if he were ever sober.
Now the eccentric alchemist is slumming it in the Cursed Apple. But why is he joining the fight to summon the Patrons? What could he possibly want? And who took his shoes?
Visual Concept
A mashup of Harry Dubois (Disco Elysium) and Ben Franklin. His clothing is colorful and rich-looking but completely stained with unknown fluids. Notably, he wears no shoes. (Patrons say they will help him find his shoes if he completes the ritual)
His weapon is his own magical imbued tall boot named “Das Boot,” in which he mixes his formulas and booze cocktails. His walking animations include drunken staggers, and his melee attacks involve hitting enemies with the boot.
M1 shooting animation: A beam/hose emitted from the boot that curves downward, with range falloff
M2 animation: A funnel-like vacuum sucking enemies into the boot
Reload animation: He chugs from Das Boot
Personality
He knows he is an incredible alchemist who could solve the world’s problems and even his addictions but would rather drink.
He loves to live in squalor. Has notable drunk speech
Weapon Mechanics
M1: Acts like a fire hose—beam emitted from the boot that curves downward with range
M2: Uses a lot of ammo but deals higher gun damage; short-range funnel in front of St. Germain
Ability Mechanics
Ability 1: Drunken Transmutations
Even St. Germain doesn't know what these runes do.
- Runes appear on surfaces around St. Germain. Touching them grants buffs or debuffs.
- Enemies who step on runes gain a random debuff and take spirit damage
- If enemies step on three runes, they take a large amount of spirit damage
- Allies who step on runes gain a random buff
- If allies step on three runes, they receive healing and increased spirit damage
Ability 2: Booze Money
Summons the Hand of Midas to transmute enemies into gold and then spend that sweet drinking money.
- A golden hand appears at a target location. After 2 seconds, it clenches into a fist, dealing spirit damage, briefly stunning enemies and applying a fading slow. It disappears after 3 more seconds. Some of the damage dealt is converted into healing for St. Germain.
- The hand has a collision box and can be used to block areas or as a platform for traversal.
- If NPCs die from this ability, they pay their souls immediately regardless of range.
Ability 3: Mixing Liquors
Take a swig of whatever cocktail you’ve made in your weapon and hope for the best.
- Grants a barrier that explodes in an area when it breaks.
- Increases slide duration and speed.
- Colliding with enemies while sliding applies knock-up and damage based on gun damage.
Ultimate: Moment of Clarity
St. Germain’s sober mind is briefly restored, and his first desire is to cast a powerful mixture with whatever he has at hand to deal with the problem in front of him...and then get back to drinking.
After the ultimate is unlocked, every ability grants a stack of Quas, Wex, or Exort:
Ability 1 → Quas
Ability 2 → Wex
Ability 3 → Exort
When the ultimate is activated, the majority element determines which version is available . All stacks of the chosen element are consumed, and the remaining stacks are halved.
Quas: Freeze the Flow of Time
- Rings pulse outward from St. Germain, slowing enemies and dealing damage.
- Affected allies and St. Germain cannot die while the effect is active.
- Summons two copies of St. Germain. They flank and follow him, auto-attacking enemy heroes or NPCs in line of sight with reduced damage.
- Resets all ability cool downs and grants Booze Money one additional charge.
- Transmutes spirit energy into a massive golden meteor that crashes down at a selected area, then rolls forward—dealing heavy spirit damage and damage over time.
I wanted to try my hand at making a hero concept, I'm no artist so no exciting visuals. This is meant to be a silly hero and I mean no offense to anyone. Other wise I hope some people like it.
