Had an idea for a musically/movement themed character (specifically jazz because New York) who made a wish to be the best saxophone player in New York just for it to be a monkey paw curl wish, making it that they are the best sax player in New York, but they die if they take both their lips off the sax for too long.
While now being the best saxophone player in New York they are also a horribly affected insomniac due to never being able to properly rest as well as not being able to talk properly having to talk with the saxophone constantly touching their lips. Their wish for the Patrons being to revert their original wish so they never have to play the sax again.
Core idea is that ability effects change depending on how fast they are moving as speed changes the effects of their abilities and some of their abilities scale off metres per second (similar to Lash 1 scaling off height). The passive is listed first as it allows the concept to make more sense when written.
Gun
25 round magazine base
Fires out notes from the saxophone with the fire rate being adjusted with Ability 3 with alt fire allowing a charged up shot that does more damage the longer the note is held while consuming more ammo the longer it is held (has a damage cap of up to 5 rounds).
Ability 3: Strolling Busker
As Sonny walks around the map, when getting to sprint, his playing of the Saxophone gets louder and faster as he gets faster/gets up to sprint. Depending on what speed he is at his abilities get altered in certain ways as well as his damage and fire rate. Fire rate gets faster with m/s as well as projectile speed. (base version of abilities would be when walking instead of sprinting until Ability 3 is unlocked). Gauge is shown bottom middle of screen to indicate which mode currently in like a speedometer (similar to Shiv).
-Upgrade 1 improves fire rate scaling with m/s further (again, Lash 1)
-Upgrade 2 decreases time needed to get up to sprint/max m/s by 50%
-Upgrade 3 would make it he cannot be slowed unless stunned when at max movement/sprinting (probably op but oh well we have fun)
Ability 1: Staccato
Sonny blasts a single note that has different effects depending on if cast while walking or sprinting. While walking it will blast an AoE around Sonny dealing damage to enemies and push enemies away from Sonny. When sprinting, the AoE will cause damage and instead cause a knock up on surrounding enemies
-Upgrade 1 +dmg base
-Upgrade 2 distance of push and height of knock up now scale with max m/s
-Upgrade 3 if pushed into wall suffer from 0.3 stun and sprint mode AoE now applies temporary bullet and spirit resist to Sonny when cast
Ability 2: Sheet Music
Sonny shoots out a wave of sheet music deploying from the front of him on the ground that lingers for a period of time. When cast while walking sheet will appear blue, will make it so friendlies get increased move speed and slide distance temporarily while walking on the sheet music and fades when stepping off. When cast while sprinting sheet will appear orange, it will slow enemies, reduce dash effectiveness and reduce fire rate for enemies.
-Upgrade 1 increases range/width of the sheet
-Upgrade 2 would increase/decrease movement effects respectively when in contact with the sheet music respectively of whether its the walking version or the sprinting version
-Upgrade 3 applies silence for 0.5 seconds for one instance for enemy when stepping on it and increase friendly fire rate based on friendly m/s when stepping on it
Ability 4: Perfectionist
Upon casting Sonny will begin to play his saxophone at a rapid pace with varying effects depending on whether he was walking or sprinting when cast. If cast while walking Sonny will play poorly with screeching notes, enemies within the AoE will take small damage over time if Sonny is within their line of sight (within a certain range), when ability ends 2 enemies will temporarily be deafened and unable to hear anything in game(Lash bell, Dynamo ult etc). If cast while sprinting Sonny will play at max tempo with damage waves coming from him for duration of the ability with each wave applying a stacking effect of more received damage from the waves, ending with a final high damage wave.
-Upgrade 1 if cast while walking gain barrier of x amount if cast while sprinting move 2m/s faster
-Upgrade 2 reduce time needed to make enemies deafened/increase stacking damage effect from waves
-Upgrade 3 increase number of enemies by 1 deafened and duration/increase rate of waves coming out while casting
