Further optimize item slots by reintroducing a 16-slot system (12 + 4).

Add unique items and new slot mechanics.

Each hero starts with 12 item slots(no color restrictions).

The remaining 4 slots are locked initially.
  • 1 slot unlocks for destroying all Tier 1/2/3 enemy towers respectively.
  • Starting from the second Mid Boss, each team unlocks 1 slot upon killing the Mid Boss (one-time only)
These 4 extra slots consist of:
  • 2 Unique Item Slots
  • 2 Backup Item Slots
After 18 minutes in-game, a Special Merchant spawns on the map

The merchant sells:

TP Boots (T2)

+20% zipline movement speed.

Teleport to a targeted ally or alive friendly TOWER.

Cooldown: 60s.

Upgraded TP Boots (T4)

+50% zipline movement speed.

Teleport to a targeted ally or alive friendly structure.

Cooldown: 40s.

GIVE the target ally a 300-shield.

GIVE yourself +6 m/s movement speed for 8s.

Hero Unique Item (T4)

Similar to Aghanim’s Scepter in Dota.

Modifies or enhances the hero’s ability mechanics.

Backup Item Slots

Used to store replaced active items.

When your active item slots are full and you buy a new active item,

the replaced item is moved to the backup slot instead of being sold immediately.

Items in backup slots do not give any stats or effects.

I believe that if the Special Merchant functioned similarly to the Secret Shop in DotA, it would significantly improve the flow for certain characters.

For those who do not play DotA, the Secret Shop features a specific set of items that can only be acquired at that location. Furthermore, this shop is already spawned and available from the beginning of the game. and usually only offer mid and late game item.

Absolutely right. In the earlier DOTA versions, there were even side lane shops, and the combination of those side lane shops and the Secret Shop throughout the 6.4x to 6.6x patches made it feel like I was playing a stat-driven RPG map. Shop system in the modern DOTA 2 has been simplified, yet Deadlock features a far more wide and three-dimensional map. Paired with its retro New York setting, the concept of a black market merchant really should have been a staple on the map from the start. Just imagining a rogue NPC merchant spawning at random locations at specific times is enough to get my RPG side excite
