I was thinking about New York mainstays for possible deadlock characters and landed on the pigeon.
Pigeon Moriarty (name TBD) is a villain, here in the cursed apple to get revenge on the detective that locked him away oh so many years ago (Abrams). Flavor and voicelines are focused on his plans, schemes, trying to own the whole cursed apple and other over-the-top evil mastermind type stuff. But, he's a pigeon (bigger than a normal one, and in some clothes)
PM's gun is unique, I wanted to try something with a new kind of alt fire.
Left click shoots feathers from an arm at a time. Very high velocity, medium fire rate, below average damage.
Alt fire shoots a homing pigeon, but requires PM to charge it up, using the whole remaining clip. Damage dealt by the pigeon is proportional to the ammo left in clip.
Other stats - should be generally squishy but have great aerial control/mobility. PM should be teamfight damage dealer + skirmisher but should explode (in a puff of feathers) if caught out in an area he can't be mobile. SLOW movespeed on the ground, but accelerates in the air faster than anyone.
1 - Wing Beat
Quick disruptive spirit nuke. Short ranged cone blast that knocks people backward and pushes you in the opposite direction. Not far on ground but increased distance in the air. 5th point should add an interrupt (not stun) or other minor disable, maybe face you another direction. If aimed down, it should pop you up a fair amount as well.
2 - Swooping Dive
Pigeon Moriarty dashes forward to a target hero and pops up ~10m behind them, in the air. When used in the air, pops you up a bit higher / refreshes 1 stam. (picture a reverse lash grapple - flying toward and through them before popping up rather than going up and over). I like the idea of making it refund stam, but probably only at high levels, I know that was busted on lash so worth being careful. Maybe self-buffs and gives increased stam recovery for each enemy hit?
3 - Passive - Aerial supremacy
Mobility passive that enhances PMs bird nature. Gives him triple jump, and gives a stacking buff on stam usage that disappears (short linger duration) once he touches the ground. Thinking something like spellslinger stacks, giving reload speed per stack early, and tier 5 giving an extra jump + letting stacks give minor CD reduction as well. (maybe tier 5 makes it so he doesn't lose stacks on roofs?). Extra resists/stacking max HP is another way to go - make him tanky while in the air but quickly loses it all on the ground.
4 - Ult - MURDER MOST FOWL
Pigeon Moriarty's ultimate scheme comes to fruition - he summons a flock of spectral pigeons that inhibit the aerial movement of enemies over a large area. Slows dash movement + gives enemies increased gravity. Higher ranks the enemies can take buffeting feather attacks from the pigeons (IE 25% bullet damage or maybe just shred, no damage). Think Seven ult that's more focused on control - since PM can move around in the storm still. PM gets max stacks (or quickly gains stacks) while in range, maybe friendlies gain stamina recovery in the storm.
Core idea is an aerial anti-air guy. Solid at dealing consistent gun damage + controlling an area. I was originally thinking he should also be a tiny character like rem, but when I fleshed out the concept more, I think him being aerial would conflict a bit too much with being Tiny - too small of hitbox and he wouldn't really excel in the tunnels with his slow walking speed.
Combo of swooping dive into wing beat to escape, or reverse it to initiate on someone. Some of these abilities could have charges, but not sure how much movement is too much.
A couple other mechanical ideas I like but didn't flesh out:
- Let him lay eggs - as traps, maybe as his charge up right click, or something. Would be funny, and plays into his "Schemer" side if he's laying eggs that have an impact later.
- Make a nest - Birds make nests, villains make lairs - would be interesting to give him a nest that he can place somewhere, maybe that refreshes his stacks or heals or something.
- Pigeon illusions - let him make illusory copies of himself that make him harder to spot.
