Hero Concept — Deadlock

FOREWORD
Deadlock already has two vampires — Mina, climbing the hierarchy from the bottom, and the Drifter, rejecting it entirely. The game's lore explicitly names Elders, Viscounts, and the North American Baronies as real institutions, but no hero represents that ruling class. The Marquee is that character: the Elder the other vampires answer to, entering the ritual because two of his subjects are actively destabilizing the order he maintains.
Mechanically he is a support built around lifesteal opportunity rather than direct healing — cursing enemies so allies heal by fighting them, debuffing priority targets, and using Mist Form to hold positions no conventional support could. His kit is flexible enough to go 1v1 when needed. A bloodthirsty vampire who heals by making enemies bleed is interesting design, and the lore already has a place set for him.
DESIGN NOTES
The Marquee of North America is conceived as a high-court vampire support hero — a counterpart to Mina's fledgling ambition and the Drifter's feral brutality. Where those two characters represent chaos entering the Cursed Apple, the Marquee represents the institution that predates them both. He is slow, deliberate, and oriented around controlling engagements rather than winning them outright: debuffing enemies, shielding allies, and transforming into a more monstrous form when order demands it.
Mechanically, the fantasy is a lifesteal-based support who becomes an apex threat in True Form — the kind of character who makes the enemy team feel like they are fighting the city itself.

The Marquee of North America did not tolerate disorder.
He had watched this city be called New Amsterdam. He had watched it burn and be rebuilt. He had watched the Maelstrom tear open the sky and introduce the world to things that had always been lurking beneath it. Through all of it, he had maintained the Baronies — not through force, but through structure. Through law. Through the careful, tireless work of ensuring that everything and everyone remained exactly where they belonged.
It was, admittedly, a full-time occupation.
The Drifter had always been a nuisance — a creature too old and too feral to be reasoned with, contemptuous of the very laws that kept the Vampire Nation from consuming itself. The Marquee had tolerated his wandering as an acceptable compromise. What the continent could not afford was his presence in the Cursed Apple. The ritual had drawn him back, and wherever the Drifter went, the order the Marquee had spent centuries building had a way of coming apart at the seams.
And then there was the girl.
Mina Ha had been a vampire for less time than some of his suits had been in fashion, and she was already telling people she intended to be Viscount of New York. It would have been funny, if the Marquee had any patience for things that were not where they were supposed to be.
He entered the ritual the way he did everything else: without urgency, without doubt, and with a plan for every outcome. The Drifter would be reminded that the Cursed Apple was not his to terrorize. The girl would learn that titles were not claimed — they were inherited, earned, and above all, maintained.
Order would be restored.
It always was.

Tether an enemy hero for 3 seconds. While tethered, the target moves 25% slower and takes 20% increased damage from all sources. On tether expiry or break, deals 60 Spirit Damage [SP x0.4] to the target.
Cooldown: 28s Type: Active — Single Target
1 AP Tether duration increased to 4s. Movement slow increased to 35%. Expiry damage increased to 90 [SP x0.5].
2 AP Damage amplification increased to 30%.
5 AP Allies within 800 units are notified of the tethered target and also benefit from the 30% damage amplification for the tether's duration.
TRUE FORM ENHANCEMENT: Damage amplification increased to 40%. On tether expiry, the target is rooted for 1.5 seconds.
2 MIST FORM [Active — Area / Mobility]
The Marquee disperses into a dense mist for up to 5 seconds, gaining free flight, 40% increased Move Speed, and 80% overall Damage Resistance. While in Mist Form he cannot fire or cast abilities. Allies within 700 units gain +15% Bullet Resist and +15% Spirit Resist for the duration. Enemies passing through the mist suffer -10% Bullet Resist and -10% Spirit Resist for 3 seconds.
Cooldown: 45s Type: Active — Area / Mobility
1 AP Ally Bullet Resist and Spirit Resist bonus increased to +22%.
2 AP Enemy resistance reduction increased to -18%. Mist Form duration increased to 7s.
5 AP Mist radius increased by 50%. Enemies within the mist are revealed to allies for the duration.
TRUE FORM ENHANCEMENT: The Marquee may fire his weapon and cast abilities while in Mist Form. Damage Resistance increased to 100%. Mist radius doubles. Enemy resistance debuff increased to -25% and duration extended to 5s.
3 BLOOD BANK [Active — Single Target]
Afflict a single target with a hemorrhagic curse for 6 seconds. 25% of all damage dealt to the cursed target (by any source) is returned as healing distributed equally among The Marquee and nearby allies within 600 units. The cursed target also suffers -2 Health Regen for the duration.
Cooldown: 22s Type: Active — Single Target
1 AP Heal conversion increased to 35%. Health Regen reduction increased to -4.
2 AP Curse duration increased to 8s. Radius for ally healing increased to 900 units.
5 AP Blood Bank becomes a wide-arc projectile, afflicting the first enemy hero hit and any enemies within 300 units of the impact.
TRUE FORM ENHANCEMENT: Heal conversion increased to 50%. The curse spreads to one additional nearby enemy hero on application.
4 TRUE FORM [Ultimate — Self Transform]
The Marquee assumes his true monstrous form for 10 seconds, gaining +150 Max Health and +1.0 m/s Move Speed. The primary strength of this ability is the enhancement it applies to all three active abilities for its duration — see True Form Enhancement rows above. Ability cooldowns are not reset on activation.
Cooldown: 110s | Unlocked at 3,600 Souls Type: Ultimate — Self Transform
1 AP Duration increased to 12s. Max Health bonus increased to +250.
2 AP Duration increased to 14s. All ability cooldowns are reduced by 30% on activation.
5 AP On True Form expiry, emit a pulse dealing 80 Spirit Damage [SP x0.3] to all enemies within 600 units and silencing them for 1s.
PLAYSTYLE NOTES
The Marquee is a high-value support who rewards positioning and timing over mechanical aggression. His kit is built around three distinct roles that can be layered across a fight:
Debuff Anchor (Reap): Open on a priority target before your team commits. The 20% damage amplification turns every ally shot into a punish. At 5 AP the amplification extends to nearby allies, making Reap a team-wide force multiplier on a single cooldown.
Lifesteal Engine (Blood Bank): The sole source of healing in the kit. Tag the Reap target to stack both debuffs simultaneously — every hit your team lands returns health to everyone in range. The longer the fight runs on a cursed target, the more sustain flows back.
Untouchable Frontline (Mist Form): The Marquee's 80% Damage Resistance at base makes him nearly impossible to kill while active, and his ability to fire and cast through it means he does not have to disengage to survive. Use it to hold a position no other support could.
Ability Burst Window (True Form): True Form's value comes almost entirely from the enhancements it grants to the other three abilities. The base stat gains are modest — activate it to turn Reap into a root, Mist Form into full invulnerability, and Blood Bank into a spreading curse. Save it for the fight that matters.
