[Hero Concept] - The Blight

My idea is that he can be a DPS character, he could also be a spirit DPS character, and he is best fitted the most with pure tank options (a mixed is where most people can play, or highly opt into). However he is gonna be slow as hell, and items designed to shred tanks, mobility, sustain and utility is going to absolutely crush him.

Natural counters would be:
Apollo
Bebop
Celeste
Dynamo (if playing aggresively)
Grey Talon
Haze
Infernus (that's more even)
Kelvin
Lady Geist
McGinnis (if she gets a set up in a good spot)
Mirage
Paige (if itemised or with the right comp)
Pocket
Seven (if he plays right)
Shiv (especially this guy!)
Silver (if able to obtain wolf form and has numerical raw advantage)
Sinclair
Venator (oh god)
Victor (if going more spirit and done to drain him)
Vindicta (if she opts into tank destroyer)
Vyper (if skilled)
Wraith.

Naturally, Blight counters:
Abrams
Billy
Calico (she needs skill to take down quite a bit)
Doorman (just annoyance)
Drifter (well skilled Plight would be preventing him to hunt effectively)
Graves (the skulls just piss him off)
Holiday (In a team fight setting, he is able to eat those more, and can hurt holiday if she gets too close)
Lash (You are not gonna 100 to 0 as easily. Especially if the plight pre gooes and solo ults you)
Mina (You can face tank for the team, you could also solo ult her)
Mo and Krill (Ulting him and focusing him is just gonna enrage him more likely, especially if he solo ults Mo and comes out super tanky and a heal from heal bane. He could spec into Etheral Shift to get madness stacks whilst they can't hurt you, with him being juiced up by healing. So yeah. Holding him down is not gonna be as good)
Paradox (The swap can be benefical for him, especially he can eat it and force a 1v1 with someone else)
Rem (Would tickle)
Viscous (Can stop the goo guy from rolling. Offensive gear build however can shred him. But tankier Viscous builds he counters it, esp melee, cos 50% bullet goes into melee resist naturally).
Warden (Can face tank a lot more, just don't be overly out there)
Yamato (Can face tank a lot more)

So all in all - seems decent.
yknow what I'll trust your judgment lol

Old One's Presence is so fucking cool as an idea on its own that they could completely rework the kit and it'd still work.

Love the design too, it's like a Lovecraftian Mr X.

Having his gun be something he got from humans after being depowered is interesting. I don't believe the concept of an eldritch deity losing his power then having to assimilate into human company has really been explored before. Fits Deadlock perfectly. I like to imagine he's weirdly nice to mortals like they're dogs, we already have so many dick characters that one god character who is clearly evil but friendly would be fun.

Blight, "I heard you used to be a statue."
Ivy, "A gargoyle but yes."
Blight, "I used to be a god."
Ivy, "And?"
Blight chuckles, "I fall, statues rise, mortality isn't what it used to be."
I like the concept of blight being your creepy uncle a lot more than him just being bitter and whining all the time. It feels more machiavellian and strategic that he's nice and polite, for the time being. Though doorman already does this to some extent, it just makes sense, strategically speaking. Less people will oppose your rise to power if you make allies of convenience, and give them an open hand, cooperate a little. Its the reason that politeness exists at all, to avoid making enemies. People remember kindness fondly.

I feel like what you're describing is another type of character entirely. We already have characters that use politeness as you describe it. And there are no purely evil characters. Blight is unapologetically an asshole. That's his whole thing. To change that is to change the character to an unrecognizable degree

==Preface==
This all started as a simple original character I wanted to make because I love the artstyle and the lore of deadlock and I felt like a lovecraftian horror would fit perfectly, but friends and people on on social media pushed me to expand the idea and post it here, I havent thought of upgrades for the skills yet. It's not perfect, think that all values could be reworked but I think as is the idea has potential since a lot of people seem to like him a lot, so thank you for everyone who helped me build him so far!

Blight is a god like the patrons, his main form and full strength has been sealed away for unkown reasons by other gods (probably because he is unhinged). He is currently partaking in the ritual to recover his full strength and get back at the people who wronged him. (In my head he is also linked to Abrams tome because I imagine it to be the Necronomicon from Lovecraft)

==Playstyle==
"Listen to the whispers of the deep, and let your mind fall appart."
-His massive size makes him a high health tank but leaves him with very poor movement and range options, his strength revolve around his passive and his ability to somewhat control the battlefield with his acid pools and ult.
-His playstyle relies on him disturbing enemies in team fights, he's not the greatest on his own so he thrives in chaos and long lasting fights, at the beginning of a fight a Blight not taken care of can have terrible outcomes in the long run.

==Abilities==
"You die or I die..."
[Gun]-Uncle Davy:

A old lever action shotgun, powerful upclose, less so from afar.
Blight found it in the ocean, since his full power got sealed away his is forced to use lesser means to fight.

[1]-Thrashing tendril:
Blight uses his tentacle arm and swipes it in a fan shape in front of him, knocking back enemies
The ability can be charged, it gives it more range and apply an upward knockback instead of a push.

[2]-Eldrich Bile:
Blight extends his tentacle arm and continuously spews for a set duration, acid leaves trails for a short time that damages anyone enemies who walk on it. You can cancel the ability at any time by pressing space.
The ability can be charged, it makes you lobs an acid ball that also leaves an acid pool when hitting the ground, but is hard to hit due to it's arch curve throw and somewhat slow projectile

[PASSIVE]-Old one's presence:
As an oponent, when Blight enters around the center of your vision madness stacks starts to build up on you, the closer you are to him the faster it builds (on average 1 stack per second)
Being far still applies madness but extremely slowly to the point where it has almost no effect outside of halting the decay of madness stacks.
Breaking line of sight slowly reduces madness overtime.(on average 1 stack removed per second when not looking at him, the more stacks you have the faster you lose them).
Depending on how many madness stacks you have applied on you, when looking at blight you will get a screen distortion effects, hear noises like whispers and blight will get a dark aura.

Reaching a certain ammount of stacks will debuff you in stages until you lose stacks

>10 stacks, stage 1
blight can see you through terrain and he heals himself by a portion of any damage he deals to you

>20 stacks, stage 2
lowers spirit resistance

>30 stacks, stage 3
lowers movement speed

>40 stacks, stage 4 (Third upgrade of the passive)
reduces healing received

[4]-Call of the deep:
When in range of an enemy Blight can hex them and isolate them with him in an parallel dimension for a duel. The arena is the same area where the ult was cast so its important as Blight to not cast it where terain could be working against you. When in this arena both you and your target are completly invisible to enemies and allies. A dark fog surrounds the arena and leaving it damages you. The effects stops when either you or your target dies or if the duration of the ability expires. If you succeed in killing your target you are rewarded with partial healing and your cooldowns being refreshed, except your ult.

For the Ultimate, Call of the Deep, it'd be really cool if instead of a blind status effect as presented, the entire world turned black like a noir film, and the only way you could see is that there are two spotlights shining on just you and blight, isolating you from the outside world. It would play well into his reality-warping theme as an old god and his biggest strength, which is his ability to manipulate line of sight Forcing you to look at him with the is sort of visual sensory deprivation of the surrounding world would be really cool. Also this visual stylization would distinguish it from drifters ult. Maybe accompany the ult with a stinger, the sound of a huge metal hull groaning, then water and waves crash (or maybe he causes it to rain in the outside world?) as if reality itself crumples and folds when he does this, and it creates a really awesome horror moment. Just you, him, and the stars shining down on you, as you are cornered and they stare on with indifference.

What do you mean by blind status? his ult doesnt turn people blind, the fog just delimitates the arena, after that a cool music playing while the ult is up is defo a good idea

I was only exploring that alternate angle/spin on the character, it doesn't hurt. IF he is going to be an asshole, I would like him to be less petty and vindictive, and certainly of fewer words. Like the dialogue exchanges are so beneath him, instead of responding with insults and coping I would picture him scoffing or snorting or squelching, or whatever eldritch gods do, considering it all a waste of his time. Replace all the ego and headiness with a one-track mind, one that is not even concerned with this world or its people, but solely with power. At most "death" is an irritation or delaying the inevitable. That's my headcannon of what the character would be like, really. Again, the politeness, if at all, would be a facade. Maybe what'd be more interesting, is if he had no pride at all about any of this. Instead of granting an insult a response, or expressing hurt feelings at all, it rolled off of him like it was nothing, or ignored the others like buzzing flies while they remarked or exclaimed whatever they will about him. Like what if instead of "I see blight" Someone just screamed in terror when they saw him?

Always great seeing eldritch horrors themed characters!

What do you mean by blind status? his ult doesnt turn people blind, the fog just delimitates the arena, after that a cool music playing while the ult is up is defo a good idea
Well you used the drifter ult as a stand-in for what it might be like, from what I see in the screenshot. I believe the status effect is called blindness. What I am suggesting instead of the fog is just an alternative visual effect. Maybe demarkate the edge of the circle with some sort of glowing yellow barrier from a ritual circle or something instead of fog, and that might serve to distinguish it from the already existing fog-effects in the game.

Gotcha, well as long as the arena is still there im good with anything! I just made it a dark fog with faces inside it because I wanted it to feel like cosmic horror (cause duh of course cthulhu) I tried adding stars in it too but it fel t a bit like a disco show lol

The idea that he's reality warping instead of obscuring with fog is cool. One great horror trick is realizing the thing you were looking at has been WRONG the whole time and you just noticed it. I think slowly removing allies off screen, then on screen popping out, then the color on the environment going out, then the textures, then the color on Blight and the target, would be a super cool horror sequence that catches you off guard mid-teamfight every time. It would only take 3 seconds for all the visuals and audio to filter out.

Oh yeah it taking a moment for the color to fade and maybe all the characters fading out or freezing in place like he's trapped you in a private "instance" of reality. I do wonder how this could be implemented in-game though. Could you really "mask" the whole map to a different color grading, moving two players to a different "layer" but keep them in the same geometry, to have Blight and his target/victim trapped in his little black&white bizzarro world? I know the only similar "take the player to another place" style ult, Doorman's, it creates a little space hidden under the playable area, then teleports players to it. This one presents an interesting technical question about how it could function.

The thing i didnt manage to show well is how i WANT the arena to feel otherworldly, basically the upside down from stranger things but with a valve spin to it, it's the same place as where you were standing a second ago, but all dready with tentacles and stuff. All I want is for it to feel otherworldly, Im sure this is possible to do, like having a displacement shader be placed on top of the meshes of the world. And hidding everything from everyone that isnt affected by the ult seems also doable

Also here's how I imagine he runs the lever after each shot, No clue how he'd actually reload the gun lol but there's some characters who just shake their guns and the bullets come back so im sure that's fine

Pure meaty shots. Juggernaut. He could probably have a long reload where he shakes the gun aggressively, drops all the shots, and a tentacle loads all the shots at once, coiling around each individual buck bullet as it is going, before pressing it in, and as the tentacle slides out, it clicks the gun to be ready.

this would kinda break his whole indenty, dialogue lines i've written, ult and passive, plus we already have a detective in the cast. If by some miracle he ends up being seen by the devs they can do anything they want with the idea, so I'll keep him as a god original character of mine,
i was useing a detective as an example i would rather have another detective than another god which makes doorman feel less special

Holy shit, this is awesome. VALVE GET TO WORK NOW

i was useing a detective as an example i would rather have another detective than another god which makes doorman feel less special
The thing is he's a fallen god, that differenciates him from doorman who's still mighty. So he gets different kinds of banter from doorman and the patrons, there is probabably other more interesting things and roles to give him, I find him being falled plenty interesting so as an original character this is what I like so i'lll keep him this way, if valve picks him up they can do as they please
