57.pngLore:
Hanna Hopes is a photographer for the local New York newspaper The Pretender. She's in charge of the tri-day crime and murder column, an oddly fitting job that contrasts in a funny way with her calm appareance.

She is kind person, but depending on the situation and person she’s with, Hanna can be as severe as a strict mother. However, she’s still a naive girl navigating the city that never sleeps, maybe always a little too focused on her job instead of the people surrounding her.

Hanna met the Drifter in one of her jobs, were she managed to spot him at the crime scene just in time. Luckily for her, the vampire had already satiated his desire for the night, so they made a deal: the headlines about his murders must be caught by the general public’s attention without creating collective hysteria that would send them all home, she lives another day and he enjoys the chaos and attention.

Her motivation for the ritual is unravelling the true nature of the Baroness Hotel, as many things she'd seen over the years surrounding it stopped making sense under investigation.

Weapon's name:
"Mom's camera"

Abilities:
T1 - Breaking News
Throw away a spirit power charged newspaper that makes bonus damage if it impacts on an enemy

T2 - Great Momentum
Flash your enemies with your camera to block their game vision and stun them for two seconds, depending on the number of enemies in the area, the damage distributes between them

T3 - Scandalous Runaway
Leave a copy of yourself behind that will start to follow the real you after a small delay, after three seconds it will disappear

T4 – Fond Memories
Take a picture of your allies within a range and store it for later, activate again to reverse their health and position to the one in your picture, this does not reset their cool-downs

56.png

great concept art, love the ult, and i love the copy thing. this is a disruptor id play the hell out of. a little not sure about the ally position changing though, might be easy to accidentally grief with.

Quite like the art. I can see a funny contrast where she seems naive and nice but then can talk about murders, serial killers, and horrible things non-nonchalantly. Would she have met Drifter after that initial meeting? Would they have some bizarre 'friendship'? Who in the rest of the cast would she take an interest in (or dislike?)

ABILITIES:
1 - So is it like Rem's pillow? AOE? What it upgrade into to differentiate it from abilities like it?

2 - So a flashbang? Is it an instant flash (I press the ability and SNAP!) or is there a windup period to allow enemies to react before getting SNAPPED (not in half).

3 - How long is the delay? Could I set it off earlier or delay it? Is it just for juking? Or will it for instance, copy your abilities so you can double them up if placed right. Or will it heal you if anyone shoots it?

4 - Interesting idea. Will we see the picture in the UI so we can remember it for later? How long can you keep a photo? You can theoretically move an entire team with instant teleportation with this thing AND heal them so how would you balance it (You could take a photo before a push, push, and then reset).

Hello! Sorry for the late reply TwT
Yes, totally. They'd meet again in "friendly" as far as one can say, terms. After a while she stopped fearing the stories about the vampire because she's escencially the one publishing the crimes anyway; with more time passing around their "deal" it just pushes her to achieve her goal.

As for the rest of the cast, she does think Doorman is a weirdo, but not the cosmic-entity-weird kind of strange, more of a workaholic she'd like to have a talk or two. And she loves going to Celeste's sideshow, she think she's one of the most prettiest woman around New York.

1. Yes, kind of like REMs! It evolves into three newspapers in a cone range instead of one.

2. Escencially a flashbang, instant flash so you need to calculate well your timing to not shoot it in the air and lose it

3.It works on a caped timelapse, but if it gets shot at AND destroyed you get healed, it doesn't copy or replicate abilities, think of it as a hologram!

4.Yes, you'd have the picture in your bar so you know how many allies/extra details are stored, you can keep the picture for 30 seconds so it doesnt become a drag to play against (imagine pushing to their base, enemy team appears and all your allies are reseted to your own base, doesnt seem very fair).

With the Doorman, I can see his taunting remarking on how she likes to think she's better than Drifter but they are ultimately one of the same. She's profiting off his atrocities and likes it. It could even play into her killstreak lines where she starts revealing in the slaughter before apologising.

Now with the abilities:
2 - Flash News
I have seen many flashbang suggestions with a lot of hero concepts. Now, the game doesn't have one despite having so many abilities and Valve absolutely knows they exist. I think they aren't in the game for a reason. Still, it could exist eventually but the fact it doesn't is telling to me.

You phrased it weirdly so is it more like Doorman's Bells? Because in my head, I thought it was more like a cone effect starting from her. So it's a projectile that you shoot to activate? While I can see how useful this is, I think the ability to blind people makes more sense if its a high risk close range option over something you can possibly spam over distances.

3 - An Illusion of Power, an Illusion of Utility
I quite like holograms. I used them in Halo Reach, Titanfall, and Apex. However, they aren't actually that good and usually the weakest option especially in games where the TTK is not tiny. They can work in a game where a single distraction leads to your death as you die in 1 second. The problem with decoys is that they are strongest with people who know nothing about the game, but become basically useless against players who have some skill or communication.

The good? It copies your movements so you don't run into the problem of decoys not moving like a player. That is a big problem with decoy abilities in general.

The bad? It only lasts 3 seconds and would be incredibly obvious as most would see you run...and then see you run from the same spot. It would work best for someone who lost sight of you OR someone joining a fight, but it only lasts 3 seconds. They can wait that short of a time to just have it disappear. The capabilities of the ability evaporates in any team with communication as they can just say "Decoy"

It's also something you can't send out to bait people as it copies your movements. This is good as it forces you to actively play to get use out of it, but makes it less useful as you can't send it out of cover to bait a shot from a Venator or Vin ult for instance. And they would just know its a decoy as that copy will just copy the movements you just did. Sure, you might argue "heat of the moment" to say you might get some effect out of it but I don't think it's good enough.

I can see it becoming better with upgrades (that increase its duration or give it some effects) but I don't think it would be terribly useful overall. Again, love decoy abilities and am a fan of characters who use them. Just think what you described seems incredibly weak or niche. And becomes a dead skill in higher skill play.

Buying duration items could solve that duration issue, but that becomes a tax to make an already weak ability slightly better. Money is useful so why invest into an ability that won't be useful in above low-skill play?

4 - An Ult that is Worth a Thousand Balance Changes
The 4 is the most interesting part of the kit and having a duration on the picture is good.

You didn't answer how you'd address how you can abuse this for resets. Again, take a picture before a fight. ANY fight. Fight starts. Reset so now everyone is back to full HP. Sure, it lasts 30s but its still a full heal to everyone. It allows for suicidal dives without much cost if you just time it with them.

You covered the idea of using it to reset to your base, but what's the point of resetting to the base when it's already a full reset (you don't need the healing) and just reset in front the enemies' base?

You can just take the picture right before a fight. Any fight. The ability to heal an entire team to full is insane. No ability in the game can do it. So even with a duration of 30 seconds, that's enough to win a teamfight. What is this? An OW Mercy ult?

You could hypothetically have guardians prevent pictures taken in an AOE, same with their base so you can't take a picture right before a push to just reset near the enemy.

It also brings into an issue of player agency. Taking control away from someone can suck. It's why stuff like the Cube allow the player affected to cancel. You can grief/really annoy people by taking their picture and then moving them randomly later. Now in a coordinated team, this is fine but with randoms, it could be really annoying to forcibly taken out of a fight.

Again, really interesting idea and I can see the uses of it, but without more details it seems incredibly unbalanced.

Final Notes:
I recommend Deadmock to make a character sheet with all her abilities. Having upgrades would be good since it could make an ability more interesting and useful.

The camera could be named Memory Maker. Deadlock weapons tend to have clever or funny names.

I tried to cover all the abilities info in the presentation, tysm for letting me know about deadmock!

I believe we need to get risky and learn to not abuse ultimates, that's why I choose Hopes' ultimate to work like that, as a two-edged sword, because it gives you more responsability over a game-changer move that could mean lose more than just a team-fight.

Yeah its a great tool.

I respect that attitude and approach, just pointing it out how it can be abused.

1 - Is the 'stomp' range the range of the explosion radius of the newspaper?
I like the second upgrade to encourage shots
With the last upgrade, could you theoretically get up close to someone so all three newspapers hit them? A shotgun blast that requires you to be at point blank?

2 - I'm going to assume its a cone so that the +4m is the height of the cone. WIth the flash time, I can see it being reduced so that when you get items that extend duration, you don't end up with something like 4s of not being able to see. Or is that just the stun duration? I can see it laster longer than other stun abilities if you are required to be quite close for it.

3 - I realised the decoy doesn't exist to actually juke anyone. What you should use the ability for is to place it during attacks so you can bait a heal. For instance, you know your enemy is doing an AOE or some big attack. You plop down your decoy so it will get destroyed for a heal.

Though I'm confused with the /s in Health Restored. So does it work that every second its alive, the more it heals? So if it is destroyed after 2 seconds, it will heal me 64 HP?

4 - I assume the last upgrade is to make it more of an offensive tool, but why would you ever use it that way instead of before a push? I guess it has its uses but seems minor. I'd personally do some sort of buff to teammates after the ult is used.

Nice ability icons!

Nono, it was mostly designed to be like a literal cone with range, similar to Genjis alt fire with the shurikens with a small dispertion in between them, it doesn't require to be that close to the enemy, I made this to try to imagine how it'd loo

Yes, tho the numbers can be adjusted, I didn't want an op autoheal, if you wanna have the full heal effect it must count

I believe the ultimate is already pretty much strong in its base form so I thought of upgrades that wouldn't make it nerf worthy every single patch, for example more shooting or mevement speed, that's why in comparation with other levels up this specific ability needs to have more limitations

Nice ability icons!
Tysm :D I made them in photoshop

more fleshed out abilities, your ability descriptions made me realize this hero can bring many radically new effects in the game while being deceptively simpleHopes-1774495049.png

Damn, drifter's shawty be looking fine.

Jokes aside, +1 on the ability icons. Quite rare to see such good looking ones on this forum. Though the first ability kinda looks like a broken arm/leg in the thumbnail, lmao.

Lol tysm! it really means a lot, I was struggling in photoshop for about an hour when I was making the concept sheet.
