Baph is not native to Earth. He's not even native to the current Earth. Baph comes from a plane that is an eternal library. Books and shelves, wood and pages, the knowledge of every other plane condensed into one place. Baph, meant to be one of the most minor of gofers, using his Memory Stone and the flames between his horns to gather from the books, but never KNOW, knowledge to share with the elders through it. But he made a mistake... he accidentally opened a book he was asked to gather knowledge from. And he used his stone, curious about the images, to grant himself the knowledge. He learned of Earth. The Ritual. The Patrons. It fascinated him. So he kept doing it, in secret.

But when he was discovered by an elder, lost in his research, he panicked. And his flames, meant to light his way through the darkness of those shelves, flared. And the books, so fragile, caught fire. He ran. He ran as fast as he could, abandoning this distant shelf and running. This was unprecedented, both a lowly servant reading and catching the books on fire. He could fix it, though! He just needed those Patrons. He needed the Ritual. He ran and ran, rushing through parts of the library nobody had been in for centuries. He doesn't even remember how he ended up in Central Park, on Earth, weeks before the Ritual was to begin. Using his Stone and the knowledge it was able to extract and implant, he lives now in the Baroness Hotel. Inserting himself into the memories of others, he slipped into society surprisingly well. And now he just has to win and put out those flames before his plane becomes one of ash.


Personality
Having used his Stone to manipulate people, out of his natural fear of confrontation, he realizes it's wrong. This makes him anxious and hurried to get things over with so he can save his plane and go home to face punishment. He does also, however, have to put up with the consequences that he has mostly no idea what the Stone has implanted in people, making conversations awkward more than anything.


Weapon
Candle Wick
While Baph's tail makes its own fire naturally, lighting the tip with the flames between his horns allows him to manipulate them into projectiles and in other various ways. While an unnatural use of his fire, it's nonetheless an effective mid-range weapon.


Skills
Special Status: Blue Flame
Enemies take constant damage while on fire, leaving behind trails of flames as they move (even in mid-air) that damage other enemies. These trails go out shortly after the ignited enemy goes out. This cannot propagate between enemies.


Xianyang Lantern
Baph blows on the flame on his tail and launches a drifting fireball to the targeted location. It pulses lightly and explodes when enemies are in-range, inflicting Blue Flame. Persists for 20 seconds; Max 3 Fireballs

Upgrades: +1 Fireball; +5s Persist / Increases Explosion Damage / +1 Fireball; +Trigger/Explosion Range


Hadrian’s Spark
Baph sweeps his tail across the ground, producing a cone of flames that slowly grows outwards to deal continuous damage, with more damage dealt the closer to the wide end. Persists for 4s. Enemies struck by the initial cone burst are inflicted with Blue Flame.

Upgrades: +1s Persist / Wider, Longer Initial Cone Burst / +1s Persist; Increases Initial Burst Damage


Birmingham Burning
Baph lobs out a fireball which sticks to surfaces. After 3 seconds it creates a wall of flames on either side of it, which inflicts enemies that pass through it with damage and Blue Flame; The flame wall will always be parallel to where Baph aims when the fireball is lobbed. Max 2 Walls.

Upgrades: Increases Wall Length / -1s Arming Time / Increases Damage


Candle of Alexandria
Baph wields his Memory Stone on himself, creating a fence of flames in an area and obtaining knowledge of any enemy's weak points who are within it, making them take bonus Bullet and Spirit damage. Allies within the zone gain a flame over their heads and gain this extra damage effect through shared wisdom. This fence of flames follows Baph as he moves, but lowers his movement speed slightly.

Upgrades: Adds Unstoppable to Baph / Increases Radius / Enemies cannot exit the fence of flames once inside

Doorman: I'd like to remind you that your rent is due for your extended stay.
Baph: Ha ha, right. Um... Just talk to the manager. It's all paid up.
Doorman: I do realize that's what I was told. However, you and I both know that your trinket doesn't affect me, dear guest.
Baph: Can it... wait until this is over?
Doorman: Excellent, sir! Either you will pay or you will die. A win-win, for me.

Baph: Hey there, uh... you! Nice... horns!
Billy: Get your head in the game, bro! Why're you being weirder than usual?
Baph: No reason! Just... new greeting! Between horn buddies!

Dynamo: Mister Baph, you've been my student for a couple of years now...
Baph: Yes sir! Sure have! I guess!
Dynamo: Well the problem is that I have NO record of you. At all. I'm led to believe you're somehow manipulating my memories.
Baph: L-Look, I can explain…
Dynamo: Please do, it’s fascinating!
