Bad Matchmaking Thread

To help the devs understand the problem I've highlighted two areas that you can focus on for matchmaking (especially for lower ranks).

The first one is "Deaths" - this is an indicator of how many times a player has died in the match. Ive highlighted it in one of the red boxes.

Now, Id think it would be pretty easy to make a calculation that, when lets say a player is dying at a rate of:

[equal to or greater than once every 3 minutes]

that would be an indicator that the team member is griefing. especially if it is in stark contrast to the rest of their team.

the next red box on the large gerbil character column is "Player Damage" - this is an indicator how much a player is contributing to the fight.

when an initiator is doing less than (for example) 25% damage of a rarely picked backline damage dealer that is likely an indicator of either griefing or poor matchmaking.

now I know these concepts are still kinda new (since it is an alpha game as we're continually reminded) but you might want to focus on those metrics as a way to determine if a player is being helpful or not, and then you can place them into the correct rank accordingly.

Woo I sure love playing Deadlock with friends alongside 3 teammates that barely did anything or talked outside of some small bits with the Haze! It's also really fun to be in an absolute dogshit match where barely anything can be done and we end up getting served by an overfed Holliday and their cronies! Keep it up Valve! Matchmaking will totally fix itself!

valve, please ban smurfs. two private steam accounts with 85% winrates over 30 games: 43213753 (haze, paige)
it's lame as fuck and completely ruined the game. this was their very first game, it should be obvious as hell they're smurfing:

Seems like about once or twice a night matchmaking decides to go absolutely wild and queues me / my friend against 1-3 Eternus to Ascendants. This is especially damaging as these matchmaking ranks are all over the place, the eternus player absolutely feasts off the lower ranked players and then rolls into midgame with an insane advantage that you can't come back from.

I don't know what kind of balancing is done but it seems like it thinks you can balance the ranks by putting someone of a vastly lower mmr on a team with someone who is much higher. This is simply not good matchmaking, an Eternus or Ascendant player will ALWAYS more than make up for someone lower than the average on their team and just absolutely steamroll the game.

I wouldn't even mind playing against Eternus players - if they weren't able to just hop into a lane with someone 8 levels lower than their rank. That's simply never going to be fun for anyone

Mate, you're delusional if you think you're not with the right crowd. Every attachment you post you are doing terrible. How can your healing be so abysmal as Ginnis in 30min+ games? Medicinal is the single strongest longest lasting heal in the game... and you often have low soul count when Ginnis can afk farm lanes and creep camps.

Looking at your statlocker profile you are at the bottom 10% in pretty much every single category except deaths. Stat wise it looks like you are simply abandoning your team because you think everyone is so bad and play solo.
 
I hate that this thread has devolved into most people complaining about bad teammates when that isn't at all what this is meant for. That said, matchmaking is in a terrible spot right now with how it is implemented.

I have over 700 games played. I should NOT be getting teammates that think I, their lane partner, is the one stealing their souls when the enemy is the one denying them. This is a failure of new player experience and matchmaking. This is an amazing game with a lot of nuance and skill expression. Taking 6 players with different ranks, getting an average and matching them with another team of 6 is not sufficient.

We understand that the game is in development and has had an influx of new players recently. Please, Valve, for your own sake, make a statement to at the very least address the issue. Staying silent for so long is eroding trust. The longer it continues, the more players will look to third parties as the venerable source of information when it comes to player skill and rank.
this thread is for people to vent their frustrations. I doubt anything will be done about it until the game is near full release.
 
This thread exists so it can be deleted once they "fix matchmaking", because "all this feedback is now stale and matchmaking has vastly improved thanks to the contributions of our community who we couldn't have done this without". The fix will, of course, not fix anything.

It is seriously getting worse every day, probably bleeding players. None of the matches make any sense anymore, just boring stomps or frustrating getting stomped. Devs are braindead.

If you win one or two games in row, they just auto stack you on feeder teams. When they do that, just throw as hard as you possibly can, then it throws you in a low priority queue, where the games are ACTUALLY way better balanced then the normal que.

OCE's lower playerbase count is currently exacerbating the problem for this region immensely (i think)
played in a three stack and i think the compensation for that didn't help either

Ofc it's bleeding players. Every single game not updating every day bleeds players. It's going slower than I thought however. It'll decline down to 10k as before big update unless it's another bit larger patch that jumps the numbers a bit and then bleed until more heroes are added again. Or you know, they stop with the average style of matchmaking, reset mmr or anything else that largely shake things up.

Fun game. im guessing the devs dont really care about the community. All the new heroes need to be tuned down on their damage. Constant mixture of new players playing with higher elo and no anti cheat in sight. Really frusting gettimg multiple games like these in a row. Cant really enjoy or bother to learn or even attempt to learn new heroes and playstyles at this rate if everygame is a fucking shit show. primarly on the losing side. Out of the 16 games played. I only won 2. fucking awesome.

The number one thing a player can do to fuck his team is constantly die - especially early on. I am never that player.

I spend most of my time picking up the slack from my team's inability to keep lanes pushed / take objectives.

Either we are reacting to the other team or they are reacting to us a concept many players dont understand.

I rarely ever lose my lane but other lanes often start feeding so at the 10 min mark there is often a lane with 4 or 5 deaths on it and that starts the other team off.

When I win my lane, even if its rough, the people we lane against go find my other teammates and start feeding off them. I think to myself "how??? they werent that good".

If just one teammate is constantly suiciding into them then its insanely tough for the team to pull out of that.

I'll never claim my stats are great but what you cant see is the slack Im having to make up for idiots who'd rather die in fights they cant win or would rather farm then keep lanes pushed. Sometimes I spend 80% of the match as janitor.

If my team sucks they often do better when Im doing light coaching but Im not being paid to coach/direct. I just want to play with players that arent constantly DC'ing, suiciding, feeding, use coms, etc. Either Im pulling other players up or they're pulling me up. Id prefer the latter.

I'll make this insanely simple for you.

You see the asshole I have highlighted here? That dude all by himself sunk our team.

Acknowledge he is a piece of shit.

That guy shouldnt be in my match ever.

geist hadnt played in over a year, didn't even know how to swap lanes.
i don't have many games played as haze, and yet i was matched with a yamato that is either very lucky or playing her main.

all in all match was shambolic.

Literally how is this lobby stacking? My duo is one division apart from me and I'm the low rank one. We usually get put into Emissary lobbies anyways. The last time they were in Oracle was when Valve prematurely added in a ranked mode, saw it didn't really work, and removed it, then they took a break until a few days prior to the 6 heroes update. They haven't been in Oracle since then.
