Bad Matchmaking Thread

Oh wow look another loss.

Observe the Billy feeding the other team then having the nerve to bitch on coms.

Or the 19k damage Moe. Or the Mina who just couldnt be bothered to be where she was supposed to be when she needed to be.

Why am I playing with these intellectually disabled individuals?
people like you shouldn't touch the internet. you're a disgraceful human being.

oh wow look.

Eagle Talon has to keep dying constantly and feeding them - decides to fight in front of our base while they're on their final push and just straight up dies AGAIN.

The Abrahms cant be bothered to not die either.

There is an extremely simple metric to base matchmaking on - if you have double digit deaths you probably dont give a shit about your team and should be just grouped together with a bunch of other people who have intellectual processing issues.

That makes 6 losses in a row I think - and every single one of them is from carrying around deadweight teammates who cant help but die all the time.

and dont for a second tell me I shouldnt be on the internet kid - ive been here far longer than you.

people have bad games. you're just an asshole. all you do on this forum is complain any time people (or you) have a bad match.

if you are genuinely somehow older than me (because you aren't acting like it), then i find it sad how childish and gross you are being.

and i dont know why servers cant get some level of programming to determine which users are helpful to their teams consistently and which one arent. even an ounce of effort by the devs.

i dont like having my time wasted.

Also if you hadnt noticed this is a 400 page thread.

Did some research into all the users, except two who wouldn't show up on the website, on the enemy team through traclock.gg. While I know these websites aren't the most reliable with accurate skill rating, I needed context as to why I was being put into an Oracle 1 game two matches in a row with the first match being in Emissary 3 vs Oracle 1 and the second being in Archon 6 vs Oracle 1. While the second match doesn't seem that bad in comparison to the first, my personal skill rating is Arcanist 5 with my friend duo being Emissary 5, which again, I understand being put into a higher rank, but even for a supposed Oracle 1 average skill rating, my duo claimed that it did not feel like an Oracle 1 match (they've been ranked Oracle previously).

User "la passion", "Ruisu", and "Krillin" are a three stack. While Krillin and Ruisu showed some higher level of play, it was nowhere near as noticeable as la passion. After looking into their account, I've discovered that despite tracklock.gg claiming their average rating is Emissary 6, unlike Ruisu who's supposedly Archon 1 and Krillin who's Alchemist 4, la passion is actually an Eternus 6 player (their last Eternus match was 20 games ago). The reason their average matchmaking looks so low is because as soon as they started duoing with Ruisu (1 day after their last Eternus match) the average matchmaking has been shifting from high rank Archon to low rank Emissary.

This discrepancy is so egregious that for the first time I genuinely wanted to abandon a game. I can forgive it happening once, but twice in a row is so abysmal. I'm still learning the game and understanding itemization. Laning against, and getting stomped by someone who's actually an Eternus player who's playing in low rank because they're playing with friends (whether deliberately lowering their elo or not) does not feel good at all. They knew every abusable spot to ensure tower couldn't hit them while hitting the tower in return. They barely missed shots. Had nearly perfect positioning. It's just not fun.

Please find a way to remedy matchmaking like this. I have no qualms with high ranked players enjoying matches with their friends, but there needs to be at least something to keep an Eternus player from being matched with Archons and Emissarys.
Stop stacking lobbies you monkey

supposed to be a high ranked game. Kept tanking for the team but always abandoned in team fights even with comms. Just fucking thank you.

Also Mina needs to be nerfed already. Way too strong and oppressive in the early game. Not even 10min in she already had 15k, Fckign do something already with the balance updates. All the new heros except paige. in a balanced niche area, are still way to strong and need to be turned down a bit.

Excuse me but what exactly is the penalty for whoever quits the game before it ends?
I legit had more than half of my matches being not considered at all because some leaves and ruins the game for everyone.

got completely stomped. the lash and haze were 2x our souls on averages since 12min in. Thank you. 4th game in row. gonna see how many games in a row it'll shit on me. shows you guys realy dont care about matchmaking.

Finally a win after 7 rounds.

Alchemist IV

Consisted of one of the most logical, communicating groups Ive played with so far.

Which makes zero sense from a matchmaking perspective.

I hate that this thread has devolved into most people complaining about bad teammates when that isn't at all what this is meant for. That said, matchmaking is in a terrible spot right now with how it is implemented.

I have over 700 games played. I should NOT be getting teammates that think I, their lane partner, is the one stealing their souls when the enemy is the one denying them. This is a failure of new player experience and matchmaking. This is an amazing game with a lot of nuance and skill expression. Taking 6 players with different ranks, getting an average and matching them with another team of 6 is not sufficient.

We understand that the game is in development and has had an influx of new players recently. Please, Valve, for your own sake, make a statement to at the very least address the issue. Staying silent for so long is eroding trust. The longer it continues, the more players will look to third parties as the venerable source of information when it comes to player skill and rank.

when I have 1000+ hours on this I shouldnt be playing with people who keep suiciding/feeding or DCing.

its a matchmaking problem.

To help the devs understand the problem I've highlighted two areas that you can focus on for matchmaking (especially for lower ranks).

The first one is "Deaths" - this is an indicator of how many times a player has died in the match. Ive highlighted it in one of the red boxes.

Now, Id think it would be pretty easy to make a calculation that, when lets say a player is dying at a rate of:

[equal to or greater than once every 3 minutes]

that would be an indicator that the team member is griefing. especially if it is in stark contrast to the rest of their team.

the next red box on the large gerbil character column is "Player Damage" - this is an indicator how much a player is contributing to the fight.

when an initiator is doing less than (for example) 25% damage of a rarely picked backline damage dealer that is likely an indicator of either griefing or poor matchmaking.

now I know these concepts are still kinda new (since it is an alpha game as we're continually reminded) but you might want to focus on those metrics as a way to determine if a player is being helpful or not, and then you can place them into the correct rank accordingly.

Woo I sure love playing Deadlock with friends alongside 3 teammates that barely did anything or talked outside of some small bits with the Haze! It's also really fun to be in an absolute dogshit match where barely anything can be done and we end up getting served by an overfed Holliday and their cronies! Keep it up Valve! Matchmaking will totally fix itself!

valve, please ban smurfs. two private steam accounts with 85% winrates over 30 games: 43213753 (haze, paige)
it's lame as fuck and completely ruined the game. this was their very first game, it should be obvious as hell they're smurfing:
