Bad Matchmaking Thread

Why is matchmaking doing this?

Look at the rank discrepancy between seven+lash and mirage+haze how is that fair? You can argue players can just swap and in this game they did. Viscous swapped lane with infernus and the dynamo+viscous duo got destroyed by the emissary talon + ivy 9400 souls to 15000 souls at 9 minutes.

Is there some hidden mmr thing that I don't see? If so then change my rank to that instead and don't match me with folks ranks above me while giving me potato teammates.

This isn't even on my team. Honestly how does the matchmaker expect this match to be fair? Sure their Warden is initiate III but that probably means my Viscous is at seeker rank at most.

What have you done with matchmaking. Why am i being put in top eternus lobbies on lowest priority heroes, but next game i got this match with very bottom of ascended, who farmed all game instead of doing literaly anything else, cant group and call me braindead for calling them to contest any objectives?

It's standard mode, so I won't talk about each person's skills. There was a difference of 20k at the start of 10 minutes and a difference of 50k at the time of 15 minutes. From then until 32 minutes, it was a painful experience to be beaten by 50k for 20 minutes.
It may help to look for problems other than the matching elements.

I think this match is particularly egregious. I can't understand why the matchmaker would think its appropriate to have 6 players on one team who all already have their rank assigned, and then put 3 unranked players on the opposing team. In this case the match was a complete stomp from my side because all of us knew how to play the game, while the opposing team had 3 players who absolutely shouldn't be at this rank. It's not a coincidence that their two archon players performed the best. I'd feel sorry for them, but I've experienced the same thing more than once myself.
Another issue that I constantly see in my games is that one team will have a fair team comp, or a comp with Talon+Vindicta+Bebop+Mo+Infernus+Yamato, then the opposing team will have something silly like all of the support heroes + Seven. Then add on the amount of unranked players being unevenly distributed and you end up with a complete shitfest of a match.

28294218 - 22 min ranked game, 52k soul lead. My entire team was dramatically out of their depth. All lanes lost and instead of pulling back and farming then just run straight back into the blender every fucking time. Why did this game happen?

Very strange mix of balance. Some obviously new players vs people with a bit more time in the game. Maybe this was due to a wide premade somewhere??

It feels like Seven, Lash, Pocket, Wraith & maybe Geist should never have been matched up in a game with me, shiv, haze yamato and vindicta

Greenlane was a wash because vindicta was 12-3 whereas pocket went 1-9 & they were lane partners.

Left solo lane : Infernus (me) vs Wraith (imo very obvious new player)
2-0 kills,
6.3k vs 3.6k souls,
58 last hit vs 24 last hit
3-6 denies (embarrassing, given everything else but this is non-ranked)
3k vs 2k hero damage
left giving me a free tower, i killed a couple of times more after lane and she left the game.

right solo lane: Shiv vs LadyGeist
3-1 kills
6.1k - 5.2k souls
50 last hits vs 36
2-2 denies
4.5 vs 3.4 damage

Blue lane:
Seven&Lash vs Yamato&Haze
1 kill -10 kills
8.3k - 14.2k souls
5k vs 10k hero dmg
5min vs 17min tier1

I saw while we won the outer lanes, their inner lanes seemed to crush ours and so I deliberately bullied the wraith out of the game (seeking and killing her repeatedly, no actual abuse!). I kinda wish I hadn't taken it out on her. Not too long later Geist quit and abandoned. That made the game unwinnable. I pointed out the MM fail, vindicta hadn't noticed brand new players, he's just that good at the game, always (:D).

Was awful before Dynamo decided to go AFK in order to try and end it early, but that didn't help. I'm detecting an increase in toxicity as well as bad matchmaking lately.
 
So I've tried to be a bit more open minded recently as I noticed that you have removed the "high skill difference" warning in parties, and I was thinking something was fixed. However, tonight confirms that matchmaking remains a real pain point for this game and is desperate need of attention. Getting a somewhat even match where plays actually matter is a real rarity these days. The stomps appear to be in either direction.

More oddly, recently (last 3 days or so), I have noticed that the game is match making my brother and I into very high end lobbies, despite the fact it is evident neither of us belong there. We do not have ranks anywhere near the people in these lobbies. My brother is unranked, and my rank when I last bothered obtaining is Archon 5. Yet we have been placed into casual games against high Phantoms, and today even a lobby where some opposing players are Ascendant rank. This is atrocious, and has pretty much destroyed any game play experience these last few days.

Game ID:

28313596. A complete and utter stomp, very apparent we don't belong there. We were decimated with little chance.
27937183. Same as above.

27813032. A complete and utter stomp, but the other way. The enemy team were squashed.
27809284. Same as above, enemy team completely squashed and didn't stand a chance.


These are just some examples I have noted but there are other games, again going both ways.

Please can there be some public comms about the state of match making, just so we know what the Dev team thoughts are, particularly with the evidence you are able to assess? A game where it is even on both sides and the skill bracket doesn't feel at a crazy differential is becoming exceedingly rare. I appreciate you and the team are busy with a huge pipeline of things, but match making is pivotal to a game of this nature, and it feels as if it has been completely out of tune since ranked was launched several weeks ago.

I am curious to know if the dev team are in agreement this is currently a broken system?
 
same 2 cheaters in 4 matches, 3 consecutive ones. And they were already cheating before according to people in the first match:

Not only they were aimbotting, they were flying through the map in a second. I don't know how any form of anti-cheat doesn't automatically flag that.

I've had so many shit matches recently I don't even bother posting them; though, this one was so awful that I had to post it because it's literally the worst game I've ever played. The unranked games I played today were better somehow. This match was just exasperating. We lost the lanes so fast we didn't have time to farm, then when we tried to farm everyone would just get murdered. Again. Repeat until they finally decided to push for the patron.

I can understand the Seeker II player is being matched in a game with primarily Initiate players. Not sure why an Alchemist II player is here though.

Seems like every ranked game I play is a stomp one way or the other, I would rather have 2 hour long competitive matches, than a match thats a stomp 20 minute long match, 1000 times worse to make games shorter if they are this onesided, its way more fun to play longer if its a close game. You shouldnt have to trade, but I would prefer the old system that wasnt a stomp every game than this meta.
