Hi, so I've had 2 matches today where we have had the "wide skill range" message in our party. In 2 of the 3 games tonight the game balance has felt like a total mish-mash of skill ratings. Game ID:
26718830
26722341
In game ending 830, 2 players on our team (Haze and Infernus) clearly were well outside of what the banding for the general teams were for skill. Whilst other players on each team had somewhat meaningful performances, both of these players lagged woefully behind the rest of the team, and by the end of the game basically provided no benefit whatsoever to the team performance. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it makes me question the floor - ceiling range of the match maker for these sort of games?
In game ending 341, our team started off strong and totally fell apart towards the end. The Haze on the enemy team did what Haze does, and snowballed into a ridiculous unstoppable killing carry machine. However, when we checked the profile of the Haze player it seemed that they were rank Phantom 4. I do have a rank of Archon 5, and my brother who I queued with does not have a rank. Another player on the enemy team is Emissary 1, and a player on our team is Emissary 5. This raises the question again of where are the ceiling and floors being set?
Don't get me wrong, I am not a good player and personally, as I have complained about before on this forum, I feel the MMR weights are still way off and I am being graded far too generously in terms of skill bracket. So my gripe here isn't aimed at individual players playing poorly. However, seeing games like these 2 makes it seem as though queueing into a "wide range" party game basically means the match maker will not set any ceiling or floor for how high/low the banding differences on each team could be, or at least this is the impression it gives.
If this is the case, could we perhaps see this tuned out to only allow a certain amount of variation either above or below the skill of the players queueing up? I completely appreciate this may well be a headache to pull off if you had players at the extreme ends queueing in, but going into games where you might get a team who are way above your grade, or way below and the same on the enemy team, is really making the play experience frustrating. I would personally rather the queue teams went up a few minutes whilst it tried to at least ensure there were equal(ish) numbers of skill matched players in each team, who are only a certain degree above/below each other, rather than these quick queues of lucky (or unlucky) dip.
