Shop update introduced a mechanic similar to old ammo scavenger item: returning 1 ammo if you hit a soul orb (deny or secure). It always works if you have plenty of ammo in the mag, but if its your last bullet there's a combination of circumstances that can cause you to get that bullet return AFTER you are forced to reload, deeming it useless, or not return a bullet at all.
First here's examples where it works properly. These are characters with slow fire rate and fast bullet velocity. This works with other characters fitting these criteria. Seven is only forced to reload after shooting(due to burst fire) the bullet he got returned by this mechanic, so it works fine for him too(and lash, paradox, sinclair), albeit i didnt test if he could keep going if there were many souls he could hit in one burst due to complexity of setting it up (im lazy).

Now if we look at characters with fast fire rate but still high bullet veloctity. This mechanic doesnt work anymore

And if we look at someone with slow fire rate but low bullet velocity we can notice that it happens too but only if you shoot from far enough:
