VRAM Memory Leak, pre-eminent on Linux, but possibly present on Windows as well.

I have noticed that on both my graphics cards (RX 6700s/ RTX 4060), each with a value of 8GB Vram there are heavy framerate drops and frametime stutters when entering mid/late-game, rendering the game unplayable until you restart. (all of which I tested under Linux using DXVK, on Windows this does not occur as far as I have tested, or it occurs on a lesser level). I believe this issue does not occur on Vulkan, but Vulkan suffers from heavy microstutters when triggering the UI and in teamfights, therefore I cannot count it as usable.

While I normally achieve around 70-80 fps in mid-to-late without this bug happening, my framerate drops to a whopping 40 when Vram usage rises to 7.7/7.9 usage. GPU Wattage also drops from 80-ish to 50w, although I am not certain if that's a pattern.

Using FSR at 1.5 in order to upscale to 1080p native res circumvents this issue, or at least postpones it, although i do not find it ideal to play the game at less than 1080p native.

My friend who is also using Linux and has a 12 GB Vram card gets 10 GB usage out of 12 total when using FSR 1.5 to upscale to 2k native res. I find it hard to believe that is intended.

Attached are photos of those metrics when said issues happen, I checked the console logs on F7, but unfortunately could not find anything relevant other than the game having issues to load certain models/textures randomly throughout gameplay. I will further keep an eye on that.

I hope this can be somehow prioritised in determining what the issue is, as this bug really impedes gameplay during late-game with the framedrop & latency increase that happens.

Seems like a lot of people is having (me included) the same problem. With the amount of post i have seen i doubt devs are not aware of this already. I guess we will have to wait until they patch it. Also i have seen players using custom configs like "dayson cfg" but i have no clue about if this solves the problem.

I see, I hope I'm not causing bug report spam. If this post serves no use to the developers then I'm sure the moderators will feel free to take it down if needed to prevent that.

The other posts I noticed speak more about the Windows experience, but since there is no native Linux build, the leak logically carries over to Linux. The thing is I have had a lot better of an experience on Windows regarding this (using the same setup), which is why I created the post (to specify the severity of the leak on Linux specifically).

I have observed the exact same behaviour on both vulkan and dxvk and multiple version of proton.

PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 on vulkan prevents the game from locking up completely, instead staying at 3 fps until I restart. Low texture quality just allows for a little more time before the inevitable fps drop. It happens every game randomly, sometimes immediately, sometimes multiple times a game.

This behaviour can be induced consistently on vulkan by trying to scrub forward in any replay.
On dxvk with PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 the game will crash after the fisrt few frames. Without it, the vram and gpu usage shows the same results, but the framerate remains a little higher (~40fps).

I am running a 4070 MAX-Q (8GB VRAM), but my friends with a 3060 (12GB VRAM) has pretty much identical results.

Other notes:
  • This seemingly doesn't happen at all on Windows on both of our machines.
  • I see identical results with both the nvidia and nvidia-free drivers.
  • Scaling technology doesn't seem to make a difference.
  • Example Match ID in case it's helpful: 55359128 (Haze and Silver)

Vulkan suffers from heavy microstutters when triggering the UI and in teamfights
On my hardware both vulkan and dxvk have issues when toggling UI elements. For example, in every match of street brawl the item choice UI consistently causes massive frame drop and does not recover until the UI is closed. On dxvk in particular the kill / assist bubble UI element seems to be a common trigger for freezes.

my framerate drops to a whopping 40 when Vram usage rises to 7.7/7.9 usage. GPU Wattage also drops from 80-ish to 50w, although I am not certain if that's a pattern.
It is almost certainly a patternnvidia.png

The same issue is present on Windows 11 as well. I'm running an RTX 4060 Laptop and it's the same story: vRAM fills up with each passing round (I play Street Brawl only). Upon reaching 8.1/7.9 the game starts to slow down, reducing FPS by 2 on each consecutive round.

Looks like it's a game renderer issue, since it affects users at random and it's not GPU or OS specific.
