Urn carrier cannot sprint

The chain of patch notes does not make it clear whether this is intended behavior or an accident. I find it odd that the urn would disable sprint, so I'm reporting this as a bug.

Patch 10-15-2024 [https://forums.playdeadlock.com/threads/10-15-2024-update.38925/]
Urn sprint changed from +3/5 for winning/losing team to +2/6.
I will assume that this was additive and not a fixed value set to sprint.

In this patch, the Urn carrier could sprint and their sprint speed was affected by any items they held.

Patch 12-06-2024 [https://forums.playdeadlock.com/threads/12-06-2024-update.50599/]
Carrying Urn now sets and limits your movespeed to a fixed 13 (this includes things like Ivy Air Drop). It no longer provides sprint. The speed cannot be reduced or increased.
If I understand correctly, the Urn no longer provided a buff to sprint speed, and the Urn carrier could not normally sprint because their move speed was set to, and limited to, 13.

Does the statement "It no longer provides sprint" intend to mean that the carrier is disabled from sprinting? Or that the Urn no longer provides a sprint buff? Or that the move speed cap prevents sprinting? In this patch, the ambiguity is irrelevant, but in future patches it makes a difference.

Patch 04-04-2025 [https://forums.playdeadlock.com/threads/04-04-2025-update.60284/]
Urn speed limit increased from 13 m/s to 15 m/s.
There is no clarification as to whether the Urn carrier can sprint. Now the ambiguity in the prior patch is relevant.

So, could the urn carrier sprint in this patch? It's possible no one noticed because the 2m/s would only make a small difference, and everyone was used to the fixed 13m/s.

Patch 10-02-2025 [https://forums.playdeadlock.com/threads/10-02-2025-update.84332/]
Soul Urn: Movespeed bonus reduced from +7m to +3.5m.
I find this strange because the 12-06-2024 patch claimed move speed was set to 13m/s, not buffed. But that is mostly irrelevant to the point. The effect of this change is that high-sprint Urn carriers now move slower with the Urn than without it. Paige and Bebop experience this with no items equipped.

I find it odd to nerf the effective move speed of characters that are already risky Urn carriers. Paige and Bebop (4.0 and 4.5 sprint respectively) cannot reliably disengage or fight if they are intercepted with Urn. Because their top move speed is slower with Urn than without it, and the patch notes are ambiguous, I ask whether this is inteded or not.

Believe me or not but I did pay attention to these changes trough out the patches

It meant it disabled you from sprinting as a way to clairfy that your movement speed was always 13m/s regardless of any move speed or sprint speed buff.

It just wasn't changed, urn carrier still can't sprint and move speed is fixed at 15

Soul Urn: Movespeed bonus reduced from +7m to +3.5m.
Now THIS is where i think something went wrong

Because here's the thing, it seems like the whole thing was coded as "gain +7m/s and 100% slow resist, but can't go past 15m/s", which for most, if not all heroes, meant you always had 15m/s move speed

And now, that +7m/s was reduced to 3.5m/s, but the max remains at 15m/s with disabled sprint speed

Based on testing, Urn now does the following:

+3.5m/s Move speed
+100% slow reist
-disables sprint speed
-caps all move speed to 15m/s

+grants 30%/30% resists

To test this, use the Explore NYC option in the menu, then try different heroes, buy items that give flat move speed like Enduring speed, Frenzy, Vailwalker, Fortitude, and make sure to take into account that sprint speed gets disabled.

As a result, you can actually move just as fast with urn on heroes like Bebop and Paige if you buy move speed items, although I understand that requiring that is a bit annoying.

EDIT: in short: the last patch notes just didn't properly clarify the changes

Regarding your tests, they match up with what I've seen.

Most characters' move speed is less than 8m/s. If Urn gave +7m/s, their move speed would have been less than 15m/s without sprint. [https://deadlock.wiki/Move_Speed]

So you're begging the question of whether it was intended for characters to sprint or not.

the last patch notes just didn't properly clarify the changes
Were the patch notes incomplete, or is the game wrong? I was inclined to trust that the game was working as intended, but the current patch makes me doubt that.

I made this bug report because I suspect that it was not intended for the Urn to disable sprint. The intent was for it to only cap your move speed, based on my reading of the patch notes. It could, in my opinion, be a mistake for it to disable sprint, but I am not certain either way.

Yeah... a lot of them might've actually had something like 14m/s? (despite what the patch notes said) I'm not actually too sure sure about this

Most likely the patch notes were incomplete, but this report doesn't hurt, there definitely is some confusion about it, maybe they'll adjust it.

All I can tell you for sure is that on Paige, the "Soul Urn: Movespeed bonus reduced from +7m to +3.5m" change actually results in the urn giving zero movespeed bonus, not 3.5m/s.

Her max move speed out-of-combat (without items/buffs) is 7m/s (base) + 4m/s (sprint), assuming the wiki values are exact. In combat, her move speed is only 7m/s.

When carrying the Urn, she gains +3.5m/s move speed, but she cannot sprint. So she moves 0.5m/s slower than her usual out-of-combat speed, which looks almost the same. The difference is that the speed is maintained in-combat, because it's a move speed buff, not sprint.

See the two attached clips. In the first clip, I move without the Urn at 11m/s. After Infernus uses Spirit Sap on me, I move at 7m/s for 4s.

In the second clip, I move with the Urn at 10.5m/s (displayed as 10). After Infernus uses Spirit Sap on me, I still move at 10.5m/s.

-with no items the urn takes me from 10 m/s to 11 m/s
-if i have enduring speed the urn takes me from 13 m/s to 13 m/s

even though Enduring Speed's m/s modifier is not supposed to exclusive to sprinting. so is there also some other modifier that says "this also makes you ignore all other speed modifiers"? if so that should be very explicitly stated somewhere.

All Move Speed bonuses are added together and always active, including the Urn's +3.5m/s bonus. The Urn also disables all sprinting, so a character's base Sprint Speed, and any Sprint Speed bonuses they have, have no effect.

Part of the issue could be rounding, since the game only shows speed to the nearest 1m/s.

For Paige:
No urn, no items: 7m/s base + 4m/s sprint = 11m/s
Urn, no items: 7m/s base + 3.5m/s Urn = 10.5m/s (Rounds to 10m/s for me)
No urn, Enduring Speed: 7m/s base + 2.25m/s ES + 4m/s sprint = 13.25m/s (Rounds to 13m/s)
Urn, Enduring Speed: 7m/s base + 2.25m/s ES + 3.5m/s Urn = 12.75m/s (Rounds to 13m/s)

Sprint bonus always starts at 3m/s and accelerates at a rate of +1m/s per second up to the total sprint speed, so that might be why you measured Paige's out-of-combat speed as 10m/s without Urn or Enduring Speed. She starts running at 7m/s base + 3m/s sprint, but after one second it becomes 7m/s base + 4m/s sprint, and then stays there unless she has sprint buffs.
