What's the purpose of this item?

Trophy Collector in my opinion is very underwhelming for a T3 item, and buying it is a bit of a gamble since the item itself does not do anything until stacks have been provided. What this item seeks to do is to test if Trophy Collector is worth the upgrade from your Trophy Bag, telling from the game state and how many stacks you would have. If you do not have a lot of stacks later in the game, or any of that matter, Trophy Collector would not be worth the extra souls, and you can safely sell Trophy Bag without losing a huge amount of money. Side note: Upgrading Trophy Bag to Trophy Collector maintains stacks.
The idea to lose a stack from one death is because it prevents players from getting too greedy for stacks and makes the item more support like. It encourages players to keep their lead rather than forcing themselves upon it.

This is good idea. It would be really useful, since you would be able to gain stacks earlier, saving them in Trophy Collector.

Personally, I think that stack losses are unnecessary. It is not like Glass Cannon.
