Switch pro controller issue

When launching the game the controllers right can only move the camera horizontally by rotating clockwise or counter clockwise, only some abilities can be used and menus do not respond to any controller inputs. When I change the steam button layout the controllers inputs do nothing except for opening the escape menu with plus, i can't find anything on this issue and old instructions for using a controller aren't helping at all.

the game just might not support switch pro controllers honestly. regardless, why would you want to play with a controller? it would put you at a disadvantage lol

in the game there are official valve control layouts including gyro aiming, i want to play with controllers because i cant get my hands used to navigating a keyboard without looking at it which makes it very hard to play games that require more than just wasd
