Ranks seem to be broken/unfair

hey, so my issue here is that my rank has never moved.

i have been stuck in initiate 2 since ive downloaded the game, it has now been about a month, i've been stomping noobs every single day... while some people might enjoy that, i play the game because the movement is cool and i wanna try to get better at it all, not to go stomp noobs every day... and from what i can tell, i am not the only one who has had this happen to, seen quite a few players who i thought were really good that just... were not in high ranks... i use tracklock/statlocker to track people's skill ratings just to keep track.

few notes :

my rank has never changed after the initial placements as far as i know

my win rate is slightly below 50%, it was worse at the start because i was new and bad, its been going up every day

my main has 68% win rate (celeste, 52 matches, 31 wins, about 67.7%, rounded out to 68%)

my skill rating with celeste has been the only thing thats been moving (IT WENT DOWN AFTER A WIN??? its now "low compared to skill level", it was "high compared to skill level" before the game i won... with MVP at that...)

my second main, Silver has pretty low WR which has been going up recently after learning movement techs (im admittedly not the best on her but i usually do better than most my team anyways)

i played 1-3 games on about half the roster just to test them out with mixed results (except Rem, apparently im "high compared to skill level" on him or whatever...)


so, here's my suggestion : fix ranking system. matchmaking is not fun for anyone if me and others who seem to be stuck like i am, are just stomping them when they just downloaded the game... its not fair for them and its not fun for me... likely not fun for them either im not gonna lie...

There HAS to be a better way to do ranks/skill rating...

Been posting about the same thing, stuck on Initiate 2. Never went up or down, in over 150 games. Meanwhile friends I've taught the game have been promoted far beyond WHILE PLAYING IN THE SAME EXACT GAMES AS ME!

Let's be real, how many wins or losses should it really take to move from Initiate 2...?

right forgot i made this post, im no longer stuck, however, ranking up is EXTREMELY slow and painful... this ranking system DEFINITELY needs a MASSIVE rework as this is simply not up to modern standards, this was fine 15 years ago, not now... even tho 15 years ago it was still a shit system, people wouldnt complain cause it was fine to them. it works with a smaller player base, doesnt work with a bigger one...

either way, im initiate 4 atm, still going up slowly, hope this helps people, just know it will be VERY slow and VERY painful for your account to rank up if you have been stuck in initiate 2 at any point, also note that losing will drag you back way harder and winning will not weigh as much. its just how things are here at the moment... hoping to see this improved because this is simply UNACCEPTABLE

The skill rating system makes no sense and would not fly in other game genres.

It is extremely bizarre for someone (like me) to have an abysmal 20% win rate and somehow climb in rating, while other people with high win rates are stuck in their ranks much lower. It's almost like the system uses arbitrary gameplay stats to determine ranks rather than wins and loses.

Imagine if this backwards system were in a fighting game. It'd be like a player losing 80% of their matches in Gold rank but somehow they're staying and climbing in Gold. But because the player happens to play in a way that the ranking system favors (like a high rate of anti-air attacks) they don't drop in rank despite losing almost every game and are clearly worse than other Gold players. Meanwhile a player in Rookie rank is winning 70% of their matches but because they rarely use anti-airs (possibly because they don't have to to win games at that level) they don't climb at all.

And of course, with ranks being nonsensical, the matchmaking is predictably awful because it's using those broken player ranks to attempt making balanced matches.
