Puddle punch still no damage when casted on some surface

As my previous thread said, it still do no damage when cast on such surface which might not have enough space on the punch direction. Is that intended for the safe collision detection or not?

Another surface this happens on is at the left guardian with the cart. Weirdly, the punch actually extends past and hits the other wraith through a wall.
