Artificer(name pending this is the internal one since I don’t have great ideas for the name.):
Mid-line assassin, that can flex off support. High mobility, precision based, machinist like. Classmate to McGinnis, and Pocket. McGinnis in college(for like 1 class) Pocket in high school. Knows pocket personally. Student under Dynamo, currently studying but also working at the Baxter society, making magical weapons and armor for them(shiv and calico’s arms are his design). Cishet He/him straight ally. (I think it would be incredibly funny if he was the only character on the whole roster whom despite not being canonically Japanese can still speak it really well to Yamato leading to a strange case where she isn’t able to just insult him.)
He’s participating in the ritual due to curiosity and a lust for knowledge.
Baxter animal motif is a parrot. (Flight, intelligence, scouting, support.)
Weapon:
“The Benoni defense(NYC variation)” a mid range lever action rifle with a headshot perk(damage on successive headshots is increased by 1% per stack up to 5 stacks fade after 5 seconds). 15 shots as the base mag, has paradox’s effective range, doesn’t have a scope but does zoom in a bit further(like 10% more fiddle with it till it feels good).
Abilities:
1: Pawn break:
Shoot a tranq dart from the underslung cannon on your rifle that inflicts a 10% movement speed decrease and eats 1 stamina from the target. 30s CD.
No charges, and no bullshit. Just 1 shot.
2: En passant:
Shoot a grappling hook from a cannon on your left arm, that lets you *swing* around a focal point on buildings, zip lines(even ones you don’t control), and other map geometry. Has maybe the range of lash’s 2. Has 3 charges by max level not including items. 15s CD on charges. Flavor text: Google en passant*.
3: Pin:
Send a mechanical parrot carrying a bomb to drop it at a target location; when it lands it temporarily roots all targets hit for 3 seconds. 20s CD.
Picture ivy air drop with her bomb she uses (I forgot the name please forgive me) but significantly harder to use and requiring real timing as the parrot can be shot down early if not used intelligently.
Shooting down the parrot causes the cooldown to be increased by an additional 10 seconds.
The root is in reality meant to be much harder to hit than say Paige’s root due to travel time. It’s not instant. You need to predict this.
4: Checkmate:
Call in the parrot as air support.
Pressing the ult key again after this is triggered will cause the parrot to fire soul missiles at a selected zone on the ground, this can be done once every 3 seconds for the duration of the ult, (at max level it lasts 15 seconds).
The parrot has health (current player max hp -10%) and has lower defense stats(+15% damage taken from everything).
The parrot also circles above the player with the center of its circle being their current position pathed around map geometry.
One level upgrade makes the parrot fly faster resulting in a harder target to hit.
The parrot will also without command occasionally fly down at targets to dive bomb them dealing proportional spirit damage. This is automatic.
120 second cooldown.
He can glide with the parrot if he holds jump while airborne for about 3 seconds.(in case this isn’t clear in this case the parrot is intangible, because canceling glide isn’t fun.)
They have a passive 2% faster movement speed on the ground, and start with 4 stamina.
However he is pocket level squishy with a base -15% bullet resist and a health pool thst is on the lower end. He also is quite weak at close range(not defenseless just not as strong as a target that is built for it), if you close the gap he just can’t properly out DPS you as most heroes.
The concept is basically, vindicta+lash+pocket with a bit of Paige/mcginnis.
In teamfights they play semi-passively only really moving to secure priority picks and to get better angles while allowing the rest of the team to clean house. More generally their plan is to be either a massive distraction that can’t be dealt with without micromanagement, or the one support that seems to always be everywhere all at once(Seems to, not is). In reality, if an opponent catches him without cooldowns or without tools to leave he’s just toast. Additionally, the mobility only matters if a player can use it. If he trips while leaving he’s 100% dead.
Build wise the intended build is likely gonna be gun assassin, with a support off niche vs support as the primary element and playing like a combination of viscous and vindicta. Using the range to use the support angle of sniper characters and then using pawn break, pin and checkmate as supportive tools in teamfights.
The two main niches are either off support or assassin. Each of these will have general paths. Like assassin will likely have shadow weave, veil walker, burst fire, long range, headshot booster/crippling headshot, headhunter, etc. and then support would likely be something like knockdown, counterspell, lightning scroll, rescue beam, healing tempo, maybe even echo shard and stuff like rapid recharge or transcendent CD or even greater expansion.
Then like generally the character would want rapid recharge, majestic leap, stamina mastery, kinetic dash, quicksilver reload, and generally anything that boosts base mobility; as, the niche you generally fill (independent of items and playstyle) is assassin/distraction that doesn’t use hp to survive but mobility. You plant yourself somewhere super annoying/threatening and force someone to waste time and resources dealing with you. That, to me, is the intended build but I think build diversity characters are overall better than characters that have 1-2 viable builds because the character gets less boring.
*by the laws of the universe I had to make this joke lmao.
If anything needs clarification I can try to help in the comments. I don’t check the forums often though so I might not get to it. Also: most “like ___” indicates that it can be fiddled with for comfort in testing.
Also this is a concept. I have an idea of what each ability should do but didnt concern myself with the specifics of how the tiers work because I think thats better decided in discussion.
