In the most recent patch, Damage falloff was changed to use distance traveled rather than distance so falloff would work more intuitive through doorways. This worked until the recent revert to falloff: "Fixed a bug with falloff calculation that was often causing guns to do much more damage than intended. "
It seems this change also reverted the new distance travel based falloff calculations, meaning damage falloff no longer works properly through portals again
