Mommy Longlegs [Hero concept with small animation]

Ever since Trapper came and went in the Hero Labs, I felt his kit had some missed potential, imo it would have worked well on a spider-themed character instead, so I made one. :)

I also came up with a handful of different spider-themed abilities that could fit her, but I didn’t go into the nitty-gritty details like damage numbers, cooldowns, and so on, since designing something on paper and actually testing it in-game would be completely different anyways.

A fates tale:
No parent should outlive their children. But for Mommy Longlegs, this is a regular occurrence.

In Ixia, her kind were treated as little more than “territorial pests”, driven out, culled, forgotten. She crossed into Earth seeking greener pastures, only to find that humans are no more tolerant of her eight-legged children eating the neighbors' pets and webbing entire buildings.

Now she answers the call of the ritual. Whether the Patron grants her a home where her children may thrive, or the power to ensure they never die again, she will not lose another one.

Weapon:
Mother’s touch
Mommy Longlegs fires venom from her front legs.
With a small additional gimmick: the shots are affected by gravity, causing them to travel in an arc. This makes her best suited for short to medium range combat.

Abilities:
These abilities are mostly just “this could be a neato ability” ideas made for mixing and matching, not a single kit that uses everything together. 😁

Basic abilities:

Wall Crawler (Passive)

Mommy Longlegs can climb walls, but doing so consumes stamina over time.
(On its own, this might not be a particularly useful ability, but I suppose it could be a nice “bonus” attribute like Celeste’s reduced gravity.)

Broodmother (Passive, Active)

Passive:
On every kill or assist, Mommy Longlegs spawns a cocoon at the location of the defeated enemy or NPC. These cocoons can be destroyed by the enemy players.
Active:
Hatch nearby cocoons into spiderlings that attack enemies, troopers, and objectives.
The spiderlings function similarly to Graves’ ghouls, but can climb walls to reach their targets. They have lower health and deal chip damage rather than exploding.

Double Vision (Active)
Close-range single-target ability. When injected into an enemy, the victim begins seeing false decoys of all enemy players.
Each decoy mirrors its real counterpart’s actions (attacks, item usage, abilities), but deals no extra damage.
Only the affected victim can see the decoys. For all other players, nothing changes.

Stickybomb (Active)
Throw a grenade that deals damage and creates a slowing AoE on impact.
It can also be thrown directly at an enemy, attaching it to them and exploding after a short delay.

Hopwire (Active)

Throw a web orb that bounces up at the target location and anchors to nearby surfaces, creating webs that damage enemies who pass through them.
The anchored orb can be destroyed by enemies.

Ultimate abilities:
Web wall (Active)

Place pillars that link to the previous one, creating walls of web that damage and silence enemies who pass through them.
Range items (such as Mystic Expansion) allowing you to place pillars further apart from each other.

Little Hatchlings (Active)
Summon spiders that follow and attack your targets (max 4 active).
When a spider is killed near Mommy Longlegs, she becomes enraged, briefly increasing her attack speed.
The ability is chargeable (similar to Vindicta's assassinate).

Weaver of Life (Active)
Once a teammate dies, you can begin weaving a cocoon that revives them at your location upon completion.
While weaving, you cannot attack or use other abilities.
The time required to complete the cocoon is based on the respawn time of the downed teammate and your own spirit power.

This is very cool and would also, I'm sure, terrify any players with arachnophobia. Lol. But I really like all the abilities, and the video is so well done!

I'm intrigued by the concept of Double Vision, but it also gives me pause. I wonder if you would have to make some of the movements of the doubles more random and/or have them cross in front of the real player to obscure which ones are fake.

Broodmother would def be my favorite ability to play with, but the absolute worst to play against. Thinking about having to shoot every minion and THEN kill the resulting cocoons, essentially doing double duty in lane stage, would be awful lol. But if it only spawns upon enemy players' deaths, they would be few and far between. I could see it being useful in a teamfight if it only applies to enemy players, not minions. Then when an enemy dies, you can immediately pop cocoon, and multiple (3 or 4?) spiderlings pop out to join the team fight when you already have an advantage. Or, if you can spawn cocoons from minions as well, at least have it happen on a limited basis (IE with a cooldown of 15 seconds or what have you.)

The wall crawling is fantastic. The cocoon revive ult is also such a cool concept. She kinda gives me the heeby jeebies, which I'm sure was the intention haha. Well done!

this is sick!!!! i love how much effort you put in it, may i ask how you compiled the video? i can tell you 3d modeled her and included animations, but how did you put her in a dummy game to test her?
