[Linux] Party voice chat causes game to crash / Typing in chat while in a party crashes the game if party voice has a PTT key bound

editing the top level post and title to make the issue more clear/searchable for others, but the issue seems to be related to party voice chat, diabling party voice open-mic and unbinding the party voice PTT key solved my issue and is solving it for others, since the PTT key would cause a crash even while typing in chat

CachyOS/Arch Linux, 9850x3D, 9070XT, tested with both Proton latest and Proton experimental (have not had chance to try other Proton versions), happens both in hideout and in match

crash only occurs when attempting to type a message, opening/closing the text chat without typing anything seems fine, game plays completely fine other than the text chat crashing the game

crash only occurs while in a pre-made party, I can use text chat with zero issue when I'm playing by myself

seems that Steam itself crashes first and then takes the game with it shortly after

Bro, thank you very much, i and my friend were suffering from this for 3 days and finally we can play together.(1 difference is that i had 'always active party mic' setting turned on but when i turned it of it worked)

I did not think that this could have been tied to being in a party, but that is an excellent observation that checks out with my personal experience. I have been experiencing the same bug for months, first on Linux mint cinnamon and again on Bazzite. (Side note, I switched my whole distro hoping it would solve this bug. It didn't.) I thought I had fixed it as I could type fine in a test game after switching to Bazzite, but alas, upon joining a game with my friends later that night, I was once again banished to the shadow realm for attempting to type in the chat.

It's definitely a Linux specific issue as I haven't experienced anything like this on Windows, though my other friend who uses Arch has no issues typing in chat - something to look into there. Strangely enough, my chat would seem to allow me to type fine sometimes while others would crash my game so hard it required a full PC reboot to fix.

For example, opening text chat while grappling up to a zipline would almost certainly result in a crash. Typing too fast seemed to do it as well. I also had the game crash a couple times while trying to type in the text section of the build editor, so I suspect it may be tied to the way this game processes text somehow?? just a hypothesis.

I will try unbinding Y and see if that fixes it and report back. If so, very strange and weird fix and I have no idea how that works, but if it does I’m not complaining. Hope this documentation can help get to the bottom of this.

Update: My hero, you have absolved me of my torment. Trash talk again, I can.

Side note: my friend who uses arch whom I mentioned prior plays with team chat disabled. seems this issue really is rooted to the game chat system.
