Hero Concept: Seer

Lore
Étienne Maraux was once a scholar, a neighbor, and above all, a father. When his daughter Amélie was sucked into the 7th Astral Gate, he followed — and was blinded by what stared back. A being known only as Seer (similar to Lady Geist's Oathkeeper) promised him visions, promised him hope, promised that if he fed it enough stolen sight, it would lead him to her.

Now Étienne wanders the battlefield, convinced every eye taken brings him closer to Amélie. But the truth is crueler: while he believes he sees more than anyone, he is the blindest of them all.

Role
Roamer | Trapper | Vision

Abilities

Weapon: Spectral Iris
A floating eye Seer keeps at his side at all times, slow methodical DMR type shot pattern with decent damage and moderate dmg scaling.

[1] Eye of Truth
Launch a spectral eye that marks an enemy. Marked targets take increased damage from all sources.
  • T1: Duration increased.
  • T2: Bounces to 2 nearby enemies at reduced effect.
  • T3: Reduces healing and inflicts Nearsight for 3s.

[2] Eye Gate
Place a small, destructible trap eye that when triggered, damages, slows, and allows Seer to teleport to the location
  • T1: Reduced cooldown, allows charges.
  • T2: Explosion blinds enemies (flashbang-style).
  • T3: Teleporting opens a rift for 10 seconds that allies can choose to follow, enemies can also follow for 5 seconds.

[3] Seeker’s Lens
Deploy a floating drone eye that reveals enemies within a certain radius on the minimap to Seer and his team. Can attach to walls.
  • Scales with Spirit Power: Drone move speed increases as Spirit Power builds.
  • T1: Detection Radius increased.
  • T2: Duration increased, can be repositioned.
  • T3: Allows a second drone to be deployed; wall-stuck drones are invisible until enemies approach.

[4] The All-Seeing
Étienne unfurls his cloak as a massive spectral eye peels from his back ascends into the skybox, pulsing waves every 3s that reveal all enemies and grants Seer bonus movespeed.
  • Tracker's Mark (Passive effect): Enemies Seer damages during his ultimate are outlined and suffer a weak DoT until the ult ends.
  • T1: Cooldown reduced.
  • T2: Outlines visible to allies.
  • T3: Kills/assists extend duration by 4s; Seer gains +3% extra movespeed per kill.

I've always felt like Deadlocked lacked a sort of intel/vision element and while I don't think it necessarily needs one, this isn't League of Legends, I think a character that has strong elements of vision gain would be cool. Hope you like Seer, I spent a long time designing him and I think he's ready to be posted here, feel free to ask more and share feedback!

I feel like it'd be neat if he had some way to see through an enemy's eyes, or at least view them in a similar way to the function keys for your teammates. Maybe his Eye of Truth can be upgraded to do that? Or perhaps he has a debuff buildup from his gun a-la Infernus/Mina that, once activated, gives him a few seconds (perhaps even scaling up through some method) of remotely viewing them.

The third and fourth ability feel very similar. And I feel the hero's missing an ability designed to keep himself alive. Like a heal, a stun or a movement boost. The ult doesnt count because it has a long cd (presumably).

Other than that, I do agree that the game is missing a vision oriented hero. Closest is Mirage. Would love to see what the devs come up with

I see what you mean but the idea is that the ult is meant for map wide vision control for a little bit, and the Seeker's Lens can basically be permanently up controlling a certain part of the map. I can imagine a Seer literally droning in a teammate into the enemy jungle like it r6 or keeping a Lens on a zipline on the enemy side to be able to call out rotates early. But also some sort of self sustain would be useful too. Thanks for the feedback!

I actually think thats a really cool idea, maybe a passive that lets him spectate any enemy that he's damaged within the last minute or something, or maybe he can reveal ALL ability cooldowns, including item, on enemies during a fight or something like that. Thanks for your feedback!

Yeah but its an ult. Ults should be scary and/or have a lot of impact. His ult the way it is, doesnt frighten me.
In league of legends, Twisted Fate reveals all the enemies on the map. Then he can recast it, to tp wherever he wanted. The tp on top of the map reveal is what makes the ult formidable.

Maybe his ult pulses should deal massive spirit damage to all enemies who are already revealed on the map. That way, the ult works in conjunction with his other vision abilities. His ult promotes enemies to hide for as long as your ult cooldown is off. And if youre good enough at your job, with well enough placements of your wards, you got yourself a hero with a skill ceiling.

I also reckon the 1 should be an aoe, to give him some wave clear capacity

Omniscience seems like it would be really overwhelming without omni-attentive-energy, so I suggest this spine of an alternate ultimate: Seer blinds themself (like Eternal Night - with a knife, the animation could literally) to grant the team map-wide Backstabber-UI

Not necessarily. Vision in this game can be translated to seeing enemy hero outlines from a distance and through walls, as well on the map. iirc, Bloodhound works in a similar way in Apex Legends

I thought about making his ult deal damage with its pulses, I was worried just having a press 4 to deal damage to everyone ability would be uninteresting and overpowered but tying it in to his other abilities might be interesting. I'd have to rework how his drones work because since you only have 1 at the beginning it would maybe feel kinda weak but I like the idea of it sorta working around his other abilities. Also having the 1 as an AoE isn't a bad call, I opted to make it a skillshot because I just like the idea of him being a character that requires a bit of accuracy that pays off really well, but an AoE with some waveclear potential probably makes him more widely appealing.

FEEDBACK UPDATE

Thanks so much for all the responses — I’ve been reading through everything and I really appreciate the ideas you’ve all thrown out. Some recurring themes I’ve taken to heart are:

  • Seer feels like he could use a bit more self-sustain / survivability.
  • His ultimate, while flavorful, needs a stronger “scary” factor.

Here’s what I’m currently testing as tweaks:

Eye of Truth [1]

  • Old: A skillshot dagger that damages and exposes the first target hit to increased damage, bouncing to others at higher tiers.
  • New: Now lobbed into an area, dealing an initial burst of damage and illuminating all enemies inside (lasts for maybe 7s). Highlighted enemies take bonus damage from all sources.
    • Tier 2: Area deals DoT. Enemies retain the debuff for a short time after leaving.

Goal: Keeps the “damage amp” identity but shifts it from precision poke into a zoning + teamfight tool.

Eye Gate [2]

  • Old: Deployable trap that damages/blinds enemies when triggered. Seer could teleport to its location.
  • New: Now functions as a deployable teleporter Seer can use at any time to escape danger or reposition aggressively. (Maybe flashes enemies around where he teleports to at higher tiers)
    • Synergizes well with Seeker’s Lens for map control or creative plays.

Goal: Give Seer reliable survivability and mobility without turning him into a straight brawler.

The All-Seeing [Ultimate]

  • Old: Revealed all enemies on the minimap in pulses and caused Seer’s attacks to apply a DoT.
  • New: Still reveals all enemies globally, but now each reveal pulse also deals a moderate–strong burst of Spirit damage to enemies Seer damages himself.
    • In other words: every time the ult pulses, it synchronizes damage with vision.

Goal: Pushes the ult from “informational” to “threatening,” while keeping it skill-expressive — the more enemies you’ve marked/revealed, the scarier it gets.

I’m still noodling on numbers and scaling, but I think these changes keep Seer in his lane as a vision-first character while also giving him tools that feel impactful in live fights.

As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts — especially if you see potential abuse cases or feel like he’s drifting too far from his original niche.

Dunno maybe 3 could be a passive that lets you view thru opponents eyes and any enemy or creep they have in their vision gets a reduction in damage dealt to them. Maybe could be clutch against big ults such as hiding and viewing sevens ult while he is above your team. Would be abused without a cooldown though.
