[Hero Concept] Rook, The Debt Collector

BRADLOCK

New member
Rook is a mob enforcer for Wraith's gambling organization that got cursed by an ancient occult artifact he accepted as payment, slowly turning his skin to brass. He is a frontliner that excels at engaging and crowd control, while also being able to dish out burst damage at very close range.

Lore:

Once just another enforcer in the underground of the cursed apple, working for Wraith’s gambling empire, he was known for one thing: if your name was called, you paid. One way or another.

But Rook never truly cared about the money. Every job, every broken bone, every shell he’s fired, it was all for his daughter. Dying. And far beyond the reach of doctors or prayers.

Then came the artifact. Taken as payment from a desperate debtor, it latched onto him like a contract he couldn’t refuse. Now brass slowly creeps across his skin, glowing with something ancient, something hungry. The magic inside him isn’t just changing him, it’s claiming him.

Whatever took hold of him wasn't stopping, so he does whatever it takes to save his daughter before the curse fully consumes his body.

Hero Kit:

"Last Promise" - Close Range, Heavy Hitter, Shotgun
A double barrel Shotgun with a low ammunition count of 2 and a relatively fast reload speed. Deals maximum damage around 5-6m, falls off strongly after that. All items that provide the "Max Ammo" or "Temporary Ammo" stats are disabled on Rook.

(1) Binding Contract
Mark an enemy Hero or trooper with a Brass Sigil, then choose a second enemy hero or trooper to link them together. The first target is pulled toward the second. Once they collide, both Heroes take damage, are knocked up and slowed afterwards.

“Brass doesn’t forgive.”
“I make the rules.”
"Not so fast."

1 AP: Lower Cooldown.
2 AP: Increased Range.
5 AP: Colliding Heroes are now slowing hexed for 2.5s.

(2) Debt Collector
Passive:
Slowly apply stacks of Debt to all enemy Heroes around you.
Active: Collect the stacks of debt of all enemy Heroes around you to gain Brass Skin, providing movement speed and a barrier. The amount of stacks of Debt collected determine the strength and duration of the buffs.

“Time to pay up.”
“All of it. Now."
"Nothing personal."

1 AP: Lower Cooldown.
2 AP: Better Stack Scaling for Movement Speed & Barrier.
5 AP: Debt Stacks now accumulate globally.

(3) Forceful Entry (Has Charges):
You perform a fast, short dash that reloads your weapon instantly. Also provides bonus damage until your next reload.

“Execution… in motion.”
“I don’t knock twice.”
“Open up.”

1 AP: +1 Charge.
2 AP: Gain +1 Stamina when Dashing.
5 AP: Lower the cooldown of Final Notice by 2s when Dashing.

(4) Final Notice
Charge up your Shotgun for a short duration before releasing a blast of occult energy in a frontal cone, dealing devastating damage, applying max stacks of Debt and turning all enemies hit to brass. Enemies turned to brass can't move, perform abilities or use items for a short duration. Rook gains a golden statue buff for each enemy hero hit.

"Whatever it takes!"
"I will save her!"
"And if it's the last thing!"

1 AP: Longer Debuff Duration
2 AP: Increased Range.
5 AP: Hitting an Enemy turned to Brass with your Shotgun breaks them out and deals x% max health damage.

Note: I left out most values on purpose as designing such a character for the actual game would require extensive testing and I think it's more interesting to think about the general playstyle and fit in the deadlock world, both as a Hero and a character in the lore. So take all values and Ability Point upgrades with a grain of salt, as they're nothing more than just quickfire ideas right now. I hope this character concept can inspire the dev team in any way. Thanks for reading!
