(Hero Concept) Dullahan

Character concept is simple, but has variations in terms of artistic styling. The concept is based on the iconic Dullahan, or headless horseman.

For this character, he is simply a bloodthirsty revenant, raised during the first maelstrom and on a bloody quest for his head, which he cannot find, hence why he comes to the patrons, to either aid him in finding his missing head.

A raspy, bloodthirsty voice gurgling from a neck belching a blue flame that flickers with the Dullahan's speech would be the common design choice, but the clothing/armor can come from any era really. Its impressive how many cultures have headless horsemen myths.

For a weapon I would go with a whip and a sword. Just like Apollo, each time he swings his whip it sends out a trail of energy (This would act as his 'gun' so to speak.) Or it could just have extended reach and the whip itself is the 'gun' without any energy trails. Obviously the melee would use the sword in his offhand.

Lets get into ideas for his kit.

1. Death's Pull - The Dullahan lashes his whip forward towards a distant target, before pulling them in. (Basically a Bebop ranged grab) Upgrades could include the ability to grab 1-2 extra targets within 5-10m of the primary target.

2. Unholy Blaze - The Dullahan leans forward and blasts a massive gout of blue flame in front of him in a shotgun-esque spray, setting enemies ablaze, reducing the healing they receive, and knocking them backward. While these unholy flames burn, they in turn heal the Dullahan. Applies 2-4 stacks.

3. Unholy Flames - Passive - The Dullahan's attacks apply stacks of his unholy flames, each stacking dealing more damage and inflicting more healing reduction upon enemies. Upgrades could increase the stack cap or maybe even make it uncapped, maybe increase the healing reduction and what not.

4. On a pale horse - The Dullahan calls upon his deathly steed, mounting up and riding the creature across the battlefield. It is immune to slow/immobilization. In its wake, Unholy flames burn on the ground (Applying Unholy Flames) and enemies in front of the horse are stunned if it runs them over. The Dullahan may make wide arced slashes on either side of his mount doing large amounts of spirit damage. While active, the Dullahan's turn rate is slowed, meaning he cannot make very sharp turns, ideal for straight paths, charging in lanes, etc. He does gain some damage resistance while on his horse.

Having no head, I'd say he'd be immune to headshots.

" but the clothing/armor can come from any era really."
Can you considering making the character a biker then perhaps? There is already a Dullahan that's a biker in an anime called Durarara (another urban fantasy story). Bikers are associated with chains as well.

The key part of the lore is he is awakening with the first Maelstrom which occurred 50 years before Deadlock takes place. Since Deadlock is roughly in 1949 I believe, that would predate most bikers and biker gangs as we know them today.

Also it would probably hit a little too close to that 'ghost rider' aesthetic of flaming guy on motorcycle lol.

Well this is your idea so I won't fight you on anything.
Aye. Generally what I meant by clothing coming from any era.. what I had in mind was either a potential colonial style clothing attire reminiscent of Sleepy Hollow, or delving back farther into like a full suit of plate armor and giving the Dullahan a medieval knight aesthetic. However, I do think that Deadlock has a more... Noir-esque aesthetic with a lot of its characters, so maybe a different aesthetic altogether would come into play lol.
