I very much like the idea of a New York Sky Police/Patrol with Zeppelins and Airplanes. But I would have put the pit fighting as a low point in her life that would make her question her decisions and come to battle in Deadlock battles as some sort of conciliation or to get something that make her get away from that life. Just my two cents.
that last sentence you nailed on the head the idea i was going for. wanted to keep it short and tie it more into the lore on lash where this hero was going to originally tie in when deadlock was neon prime.
the quick idea i wanted to get across was something like fighting out of desperation then it becomes tied to a relationship that ends in a betrayal and then focus more on career. later on it pushes them towards extremism and hate from the regret and insecurity.
its also something where i wanted to go towards the aspects of the airship combat and disdain for demonic or magical creature characters.
like ballista would basically be seen as a military hero turned corrupt by a lot of characters and would be very nasty when talking to guys like infernus/mo&krill/abrams because they are demons and fantasy creatures. vindicta and grey talon have been directly betrayed by her faction, and she views them as traitors to america because she buys into propaganda the friends of humanity put out.
id imagine also that the lines for lash being killed by her would be part of it being a bit of a funny revelation they were ever together outside of ballista's lore tidbit, to imply that the betrayal by lash is something she avoids talking about and represses. so most of the dialogue with lash would be refusing to talk to him in lane if hes an ally. then special lines for getting him with siegebreaker and zephyr kick. then also special lines for siegebreaker being canceled by death slam or when lash uses ground strike in the air to dodge zephyr kick.

The Friends of Humanity have a public face of American heroes and politicians taking up a new crusade against the darkness. They also have a private face of murdering Grey Talon's family and constantly chasing Vindicta with lots of henchmen. Ballista happens to be a prominent figure of both these sides, she does a good chunk of the talking with her fiery stage persona, and does pretty much all the killing with her silver tipped crossbow bolts.
I mean, it's not like John Hawthorne wants to destroy all magic and spirits so he can be the only one able to use it, right? Surely he will finally propose right in the middle of their next date to see the hit musical South Pacific.
He just needs her to do The Ritual for him first.

throw a grenade. bullets and ability projectiles set it off instantly, and zephyr kick and melee send it flying forward. the grenade explodes after 2 seconds or on hitting an enemy, dealing damage to nearby enemies and scattering bomblets inside the damage area. bomblets have the same damage and effects as the main grenade.

fire a harpoon from your gun that deals a multiplier of your weapon damage that scales with spirit, and shreds bullet resists on headshot. hitting the world at an upward angle creates a temporary zipline for allies. allies have sprint speed when they get off.
