By holding shift or control you can stand on the guardian. Since you can shoot through a friendly guardian, you can safely hide on his head and attack enemies. Opponents will not be able to attack you, because they will run into a backdoor, they will be too far away, or the creeps will not be nearby, or will simply attack the tower.
