Daystalker (Serial killer themed hero)

Concept:

Daystalker is a hero inspired by the story of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (and obviously a certain DOTA 2 character), the Daystalker persona being an evil magically induced alter ego placed on an unassuming businessman Henry Tarp. Using Tarp's wealth and philanthropist persona, the entity known as Daystalker could afford itself the resources for its tools used to menace the people of New York and leaves a trail of ritualistic murder throughout the city in hopes of unleashing itself upon the mortal plane. It takes great care to hide the magical nature of its murders, preferring to use (mostly) mundane methods such as neurotoxins and blunt force trauma to throw off relevant authorities specialized in hunting creatures like itself and preying on the vulnerable and isolated individuals in the city much like Jack the Ripper. The name "Daystalker" is a title given to it due to the fact that its killings often occur in broad daylight, perplexing the local authorities. In times of distress, however, the Daystalker would unleash its true form temporarily, becoming an avatar of terror with talons that can strip human flesh like ribbons and wings that blot out sunlight itself.

Design:

The Daystalker's appearance is made to be as unassuming as possible, or at least as unassuming as it could be among crowds where he can blend in. Once isolated, its more unsettling traits are more apparent. Misshapen musculature and stature give it an odd physique with its dashing business attire threatening to burst open, and a menacing grimace that pops out under the shade of his bowler hat. Think of BTAS Scarecrow but much more well-dressed.

Its preferred weapon is the cane pistol, a pistol disguised as a walking cane that functions as both an efficient close-middle range weapon and a stylish skull cracker. Additionally, the Daystalker carries a magic umbrella used to propel itself upward and fly with uncanny speed, as well as a neurotoxin injecting needle hidden at the tip to slow down prey. Several canisters of irritant gas grenades are hidden behind his coat, capable of disrupting enemy magics.

Skill 1: Reaper's Flight

The Daystalker pops open his umbrella and soars midair with uncanny speed. Unlike Vindicta's or Grey Talon's flight, Daystalker's flight is much shorter but also capable of moving faster vertically. Recast before the duration ends on a target to dive into them with the umbrella, injecting the target with poison that deals spirit damage overtime and slows them by a significant amount.

Skill 2: Brutal Beating

The Daystalker swings his cane with wild abandon, laughing maniacally. This is a channeling ability that lasts for 5 sec, granting movespeed and striking once in front of him every 0.5 seconds, each hit counting as a melee attack and can be affected by items. Enemies hit 4 times consecutively are stunned for 1 sec. (Not available during Skill 4)

Skill 3: Choking Gas

The Daystalker throws a bouncing gas canister that leaves a cloud of choking chemical on each point of contact, capable of bouncing on walls to target enemies around corners. Enemies inside the gas cloud takes spirit damage over time and are silenced until they escape the area affected, in which case the silence and spirit damage lingers for 0.5 sec.

Skill 4: Blot out the Sun

The Daystalker unleashes its true form, inverting its poor host's body to reveal its monstrous bat-like demon shape. All enemies within a set distance during the transformation are stunned. An entropic aura surrounds the Daystalker, dealing spirit damage overtime and healing it for a percentage of its health stacking for each enemy hero in the vicinity. In this form, the Daystalker's weapon attacks are replaced by longer ranged melee attacks that apply a progressive 3 stack debuff that first slows, silences, and then stuns the target.

I like the concept of a ghoul/demon shrouded behind a wide-brimmed hat and a suit, with the ultimate being him throwing off his disguise and going full monster mode. That's really cool.

The flight is alright, I think. What's selling me on it is that he jumps high in the air and is able to kind of stalk his prey, then leap down. I think you can make this distinct enough from Abram's ult. I would also just settle with a leap attack. Having an umbrella is okay. I think it kind of loses me on the theme though, by sliding him closer towards Mary Poppins rather than murderous ghoul.

Second ability I can see in flavor, but not this iteration. I'm compelled by the idea that he enters an I controllable rage, so I would prefer that an ability like this couldn't be canceled. I'm imagining something like Mal'Ganis from HotS. It's not 1-to-1, because you can control it--but he has a really cool talent that blinds you, but gives you infinite charges of your charge for a short duration. I'm looking at a mechanic where you would have to be forced to make like 3 to enhanced heavy melee attacks in a row. And I like that.

Choking gas, too, I think is a good ability. There's a nice contrast there in forms and targeting mechanisms that I like. I think I get what you're going for with the bounces, and I like that too. It does add variety to the concept. I like that quite a lot.

Overall I really like your design.

first off, thanks!

the general theming of skill 1-3 is how the Daystalker hides its tools behind seemingly mundane items, like the cane and the umbrella. I agree the Mary Poppins-esque flight is jarring but personally I just find it funny. A ghoul leap like a L4D jockey would be fine too, maybe it can be aimed like mcginnis ult with a bird's eye view camera.

Now this skill I take heavy inspiration from Mr Hyde's first (witnessed) murder where he beats a man to death. On your idea of it being a "rage" type ability is interesting too.
