Giving Raven's kit a shot

TL;DR - Give Raven a sonar and/or stealth ability.

Trying to balance a more tactical and grounded kit vs. more supernatural-based. I feel that Raven should at least be a mid-range or support/utility kind of guy, infiltrating the back of enemy lines, disrupting and sabotaging them, and providing support to allies.

Weapon
  • Umbrella Gun
    • Keep this, or you could change it to a cane gun since that's also a typical spy gadget.
    • I didn't play the playtest when Raven was out. Does this fire like a DMR? If not, maybe consider having it be one so Raven can be a mid-range marksman to fit his image more. I don't see him as someone in the midst of the fight in a lane, but someone further back providing fire support in a team fight and picking people off from far away.
Melee
  • Light melee
    • A kick, but the shoe has a knife in it. It's a little Hollywood spy gadget-y, but it could work.
  • Heavy melee
    • Impaling someone with his umbrella? Combat knife attack? Hand-to-hand combat is considered very last resort for any field agent or soldier, because that means you somehow lost your weapon and things have gone really bad.

Abilities

You could keep the concussion grenade, but it makes his kit feel to formulaic with a thrown projectile as the first skill.

Skill 1 - Umbrella Maneuver
  • Keep this and remove concussion grenade, but move the concussion grenade passive of "Deal bonus damage with your gun and melee attacks when hitting an enemy in the back" to this.
  • On level 3, his bullets gain Toxic Bullets/proc bleed damage. Kind of like a reference to the 1979 Umbrella Murder during the Cold War.

Skill 2 - Proximity Mine/Canopic Jar
  • Raven sets down a proximity mine or his Canopic Jar that detonates when enemies are in range of the blast zone, dealing spirit damage and revealing enemies for a duration afterwards.
    • It can be like a concussive blast that deals immediate damage and stuns, or you could do a poison gas mine version that deals damage over time. Or it could also disarm a player that runs into it.
  • On level 3, it also curses enemies.
  • Can be detonated early if Raven shoots it.
  • This is good for corners, preventing your team from flanked, or killing unsuspecting low-health enemies. You can be strategic with it as you need to think ahead of where your enemies will go. Example, set a mine by the shop if you know the enemy is going to run to there to retreat.
  • Not sure if it's too much, but maybe enemies can disable it if they crouch towards it and use light melee attacks? I don't think it should be too easy to disable since it's a mine..

Skill 3 - Mind and Will
  • Activate relic or gadget to reveal the location of all enemy players within Raven's range, including through walls, objects, and cosmic veils. Tracked enemies will be visible to nearby allies as well.
    • Mind and Will are a reference to Huginn and Muninn (Munin), who are the pair of ravens that serve under the Norse God Odin, flying around the world (Midgard) and bringing him information. I guess visually he could get some spirit ravens or something so enemies know the skill has been activated to keep it balanced?
    • Could also just be a pocket watch that's secretly a radar..
  • On level 3, grants bonus damage to revealed enemies. Maybe also increased movement speed, too, so you can chase after low-health enemy players to kill them.

Skill 4 Ideas

Eye of Ra
"Ra was becoming old and weak and the people no longer respected him or his rule. Ra did not react well to this and decided to punish mankind by sending his Eye to find them."
  • Activate relic or gadget. Raven gets a aerial view of the lane he's in, marking to reveal all enemies and objects in a zone. Marking a zone (like Seven's lightning strike for Storm Cloud) bombards it with spirit damage. Basically an airstrike.
    • Reference of how it could work: Ghost Recon Breakpoint's Pathfinder class
    • Visually I think there should be a literal eye in the sky or like light pointing down on the zone so enemies can avoid it, but not the getting revealed part.
  • Alternatively, have it work like Lash's ult, where Raven has to focus on enemies in his line of vision, dealing damage, slowing and cursing them so long as they're in his field of vision. If he gets the high ground, it's gonna suck for the enemies lol
Catherine
  • Call upon the spirit of Catherine the Great to unleash a ghostly wail that deals damage over time, curses and disarms enemies for a while. When the wailing ends, enemies take an additional burst of spirit damage.
Cloaking Spray/camoflauge watch/smoke bomb
  • Activate relic or gadget to grant you and your allies a team-wide Shadow Weave.
Skill jammer
  • Raven gains invisibility, jams mini-map for enemy team, and disarms enemies in proximity to Raven when ult is activated. It can also disarm set traps and enemy skills that grants them invisibility? (Grey Talon's spirit snare, Venator's trap, Haze's invisbility, Calico turning into Ava, etc).
Intel Gathering
  • Raven is able to see enemy ultimate cooldowns, and he can ping them to his team.
  • Not great when you're trying to fight the mid-boss when the enemy team is there or defending the patron since it doesn't do any damage.
