When I use in-game voice chat with my headphones on, the game's sound suddenly changes and becomes muffled. Is this due to my computer or is it a bug? The same thing happens in Dota 2 when I open the options menu.

This happened to me too. I have a headset with a built-in microphone, but I can't use it as both an input (microphone) and an output (sounds) simultaneously. I have to choose it as an output only, otherwise my game sound gets muffled, forcing me to use an external microphone to comms.
Update: I tried using the USB dongle that came with my headset instead of the Bluetooth connection, also disabling audio enhancements in the Control Panel (I don't know if this is necessary) and it fix my problem, my game audio is clear and I can use the microphone at the same time now.
