Abilities being used when using TAB to upgrade

I normally use TAB to upgrade my abilities because my ALT was used for something else, but using TAB gives me a problem: depending on the ability, it uses the ability AND upgrades it, which leads to awkward situations during laning phase or fights.

Some abilities that I can remember being used when upgraded with TAB: Mina's 2nd skill, Doorman's 3rd skill, Talon's 2nd skill.
Those are really important abilities that when used out of context can be the death of those characters, so unless you hold TAB and CLICK the ability, you will have to wait until you are behind an wall to upgrade it.

Which leads to another problem: I tried to return to ALT to upgrade my abilities, but ALT only works if you use the default 1, 2, 3 and 4 hotkeys. If you use a different hotkey (mine are M4, M5, E and F) the game doesn't upgrade it.

This leads to very frustrating experiences during some matches, specially under pressure in lane phase.

You can change the key combo to upgrade in the hotkeys menu to anything.

I know, but that's the problem. I didn't want to use Alt because it was my parry, and ctrl is crouch, so tab was the perfect shortcut, but it has this problem which it uses the ability the same time it upgrades it, which is annoying.

I was referring to the latter part of your post "ALT only works if you use the default 1, 2, 3 and 4 hotkeys. If you use a different hotkey (mine are M4, M5, E and F) the game doesn't upgrade it"

There are dedicated upgrade binds which are alt + number. If you change the ability key to E for example, you have to also manually change the upgrade bind to alt + E for it to work.

Speaking of, I tried to recreate the issue with tab + ability using instead of upgrading, but I can't get it to happen. Tried with mina/talon 2 and with the ability rebound or default.

Yeah, I understood what you were saying later! I only noticed this later, but still, alt was a problematic key because it was my parry. I'm trying to find another solution meanwhile.

Yes, it would always upgrade like normal. But I just saw another person with the same issue as you so it seems it only happens to some people, or there is something else needed to cause it.
