A Black Market with powerful cursed items

A black market that randomly generates on the map as a cloaked spectral merchant you might come across leaning against a wall in an alley, watching from a rooftop, or sitting in a corner in the underground. The items offered are powerful, but do not remain in your inventory through the duration of the game and condemn the buyer with negative effects to balance their power. All items are temporary, and leave your inventory eventually.

  • Bullet Slurry: Massive bullet damage buff, but lowered movement speed.
  • Danger Juke: Greater dash distance, damage resistance lowered.
  • Tick Tock Knockout: One-hit kill from heavy melee, but you die in 30 seconds.
  • Entangled Torment: Curse that greatly lowers spirit and bullet resistance in enemy you target. You die when they die.
  • Egoic Aim: Decrease bullet damage drop off, increase the size of your head.
  • It's A Lie: Revive when you die, increase respawn time when you die again.
  • Terminal Integrity: Increased bullet damage and fire rate, but you're always visible on the map to enemies. Paid for with ammo count.
  • Blood Oaf: Spirit damage increase and size increase, paid for with max health.

Honestly? IMO A cursed item vendor could be really a fun Seasonal Event addition, though maybe more on the silly side. Something like:

Krampus' Sack*: Stuff an enemy Creep or Jungle Mob into the sack (basically Cultist Sacrifice) and increase X/Y/Z stat by 0.5% per creep and decrease movement speed by double that.

*I know what you're thinking, get your mind out of Vyper's fanmail to Lash.

Um, both. Both are good!

Though, I think, the Shady Vendor would have to have a random amount of inventory each match and the items he offers are random. And he would have to be in a random spot for each player.

I dunno, maybe?

I think it's a little early to be adding mechanics like this to the game, seems more like something that gets added a few years down the line to keep the gameplay fresh. Would be fun.

I would be happy to see something like that. Even a single one of those items could become the base/core of completely different ways to play. I would like to know, for how long is player could have these items?

I had thought of an similar idea in kind of "Divine Pacts". Not the items, but an options to radically change your gameplay with the huge cost to get rid of them.

I never considered a seasonal event, good thinking!

Right, a shady trench coat whispering "psst, hey, I got something for ya" from the shadows. Someone the player crosses on their way to an objective or while clearing jungles. Maybe some items have unknown side effects until purchased.

For sure, that's why I didn't get too detailed with the buff/debuff stats because obviously it's overhauling the marketplace mechanic in a substantial way. It also might not be feasible in competitive modes as strong items such as these might make players feel cheated if they were killed by luck of the draw rather than player skill.
