Yamato's 3rd

After using the 2nd for Yamato, I am, at times, unable to execute the 3rd at 1 button press. I have died multiple times due to this since I thought I'd have executed the ability but it doesn't execute at just 1 single button press and I have to resort to double or even triple pressing the 3rd.
