My overall take on this game. I posted this one other place but honestly didn't see the best place to do this so...
This is a mix of Apex/Overwatch and Dota from what I can tell. The concept isn't novel, especially with how the game is played.
The UI leans toward using a controller to do anything beyond basics like upgrading or buying then a keyboard is required, like the unlock of abilities requiring space and then tab buttons... irritating especially since there are many people that dont use keyboard and still use PC. I cant help but feel that this is better for keyboard users and yet that's a rather limiting fact
I found gameplay frustrating as sections that placed me in cover but were literally looking at the fight (two taps and I'm in the fight - i can see it all happening) generated an out-of-battle map-type warning so I couldn't take cover where I'd like to (take a breath, heal, hide or reload). Reloading takes ages.
It plays like running into the frey and hope you jump enough and use enough skills to not die. This is definitely something you need to sink hours into but would put many new /casual players off
What is the point of selecting multiple heroes? are they also on the map with me? and I'm just not noticing. If I can't switch to each of them at least after respawn then there's no point to picking them because now their abilities are on autopilot.
I'm confused to see where the advantage is behind the different side passages since there are loads of things that debuff or attack you and the objectives are the primary targets. Plus i dont want to fall foul of the map and get killed for doing so.
The NPCs are frustrating (in a bad way), there is no point to the small ones other than distracting and irritating players, and they're no joke so being killed even by a thousand cuts when you start a game doesn't feel like the tactical game I think you're going for, otherwise you'd have a role (hero tactician) that was in charge of these dumb auto attack minions in terms of deployment and in terms of upgrading them (a great idea... maybe in every group match there must be a tactician on either side?). The NPCs get in the way constantly and I'm dead before I can do anything with a tanky character. (sure... I'm not good but that shouldn't stop a player) A player should be good enough to play and not die as soon as they hit the ground, it doesn't make them want to rinse and repeat. The airdrop mechanic in Cod or Fortnite avoids this entirely because I can go away from people when I start.
It's also hard to identify the team mates especially if their character's colour is red.
There is no dumb pc option... by that, I mean there's no character that doesn't require constant fine-tuning, and use of the BS steam punk magic and is instead just a barbarian in TTRPG terms no guns, just brawn. I don't want to be mean but that's a PC that loads of people love and within their own rights can be used just as skillfully.
The shop and fight model has never sat well with me especially since this is supposed to be a fast-paced strategy game (with beginning, middle and end phases ). its kind of like being at the McDonald's line and the humming and harring at the options while the zombie hoards approach outside.
It seems to me that a lot of time needs to be sunk in to get these settings and the player's gameplay to be reasonable. There's also immediate and almost obvious loot box/pay-to-win and in-game transaction potential, and that's a vibe I just hate. Sure you could market this to the steampunk/ Hellboy/ league of extraordinary gentleman/ carnival row fans but it won't get too far. I'm getting a hint of timesplitter vibes without anything that made that series so good (picked up, not bought weapons/upgrades, pcs were the pcs and didn't need changing and the controls were fluid and precise.
If I had to spend considerable time on this game I'd choose a sniper and I'd go to the highest or most difficult parts of the map which at this point isn't happening due to area restrictions and the debuff that guns get compared to other abilities is insane.
I'm now going to uninstall this but I thought I'd give some constructive and general criticism.
