Look, guys, I know you have the bad matchmaking megathread. I know we're dealing with limited resources, limited player pool, and whatever else, but I just can't comprehend the system that allows this skill difference to happen.
WHO IS THIS GAME FOR? My rank is Ritualist and I'm playing games from Alchemist to Oracle. What the actual f*ck is going on? How has this not been addressed? Why are we still forced to play competitive, where sweaty douchnozzles yell at you all game because you've been thrown into skill tiers you have no business being in. Like, why? Who is it appeasing? Is it appeasing the low skill players getting bullied? Is it appeasing high skill players who want people who want optimal play and team coordination? The matchmaking system in its current implementation satisfies no-one. I don't understand. How is feedback based on shitty matchmaking valuable to you? Like what do you expect players to say? "Yeah had a great time playing this game where we were down by 50k souls in 15 minutes". "Hmmm this game where we crushed the enemy at 20 minutes with all our guardians still up didn't feel as good as I wanted it to". What valuable insights are you gleaning?

Maybe I'm a dumb idiot who's dumb and I can't see the big brain play, but I'd say roughly 5% of games I play feel like "good" games right now. And yes, it sucks (REALLY SUCKS) to wait in a queue for ages, but do you know what's worse than waiting in queue for ages? Waiting in queue for ages, and then playing a game that is completely unbalanced and broken due to player skill discrepancies, and you might as well not have wasted your time on.

I don't really know what else to say, so, peace out. Please fix.

This game was designed for pros. All balance decisions and patches have been the result of pros just fucking over the casual playerbase. We shouldn't even be playing this game. We should let this shit die.

Why are we still forced to play competitive
I mean really we're not forced to play competitive there is only one gamemode the ranks are there for a guide, you can turn off the ranks as to not get yourself tilted.

For the rest of it I mean, the playerbase is so small it's difficult to match people with others of their skill level, the problem is it seems frequently you'll get teams that are balanced and to fill the Q they'll add one Eternus player into the match which is how it goes from being an alchemist match to alchemist vs emissary that one player brings the average up. You'll typically see one player absolutely pop off and wipe lane quickly and that's the one.

For now we suffer, nothing we can do until the playerbase gets bigger (most likely on release) and there's enough people to properly q with their own ranks and spread across the ranks properly.

Play different heros, forget the rank exists, turn it off, have fun with it, don't take it so serious because, well it's not yet, when it's released then go full sweat serious on the game.

The MM system does have serious problems, personally my matches go from Alchemist to Oracle one match to the next (my rank is hovering Ritualist6/Emissary), which as above I expect to be low playerbase numbers affecting it so much.

All the "pros" have left. All the streamers I follow have completely stopped playing now after reaching top tier.

The game, is for no one now.

For clarity, when I ask "who is this game for" I mean "who is this specific match for" when it satisfies no-one no playing it. What is the point of a match that disappoints everybody? Turning off "seeing" the ranks isn't a solution if the outcome is the same. It's not about looking at the rank difference and getting "tilted" about a label, it's about getting stomped into the ground in the actual gameplay and the game feeling bad, or alternatively, stomping an opposing team into the ground, and the game feeling bad (the ranks after the fact just explain why that happened).

And there didn't used to be one gamemode, there were two - ranked and unranked. And yes unranked still matched you based off your internal mmr or whatever, but taking that away has been one of the game's biggest failings to this point, because there is no place for people who want to play chill anymore.

Honestly there are a bunch of other things I don't like to verying degrees - the unstoppable snowballing wins, character balance, item balance, the new 3 lane map... but all of this is secondary to forced ranked games and frequency of imbalanced teams.

And I get the game is far from done. I do. But how does data derived from an overwhelmingly large pool of poorly balanced games help the dev team make good decisions about the direction that everything else needs to go? Surely they need AT THE VERY LEAST to start with a basis of evenly matched players, otherwise they're tuning the game in response to their own initial failure? I don't get it.

If the issue is the pool of players is too small... well, maybe it's time to open up the game to everyone? But I also get that THAT particular scenario could quickly become unmanageable if not prepared for it. So in the meantime, surely - SURELY - it's better to create fewer more closely balanced games for the people who care to still play, than to continue down the path of more frequent games at the cost of quality and every player's time?

the unstoppable snowballing wins

yes, its been this way for a long time now and if they stay the course these long matches better come with a surrender button. When lane phase ends and all lanes on your team have lost its ALWAYS a lost match now without exception.

Between the 20min queues and 30min force matches that are lost this game does nothing more than waste everyones time.

I don't agree that it's "always" - I've seen games that have come back (andrew chicken has a recent vid on exactly this), but it takes incredible skill and team co-ordination to pull off (probably with some enemy team misplay thrown in)

My dude. This is a playtest with a 5k-15k playerbase. The matchmaker's job is to find you a match that on average is good enough, I very much doubt that you would want to stay in 10+ mins queue for that one perfect match. There is only 1 mode to play and the barrier to getting the game at all means that people already playing it are gonna be somewhat better at the game.
If it makes you so angry just wait for the 1.0 release.

Thank you for not reading or comprehending literally anything I said. A++

That's the problem you are not writing anything.
This issue won't get fixed until the game releases and new players come in a big wave, because there is literally no way to fix it right now. They already got the data and are working on developing the game.

Me when I lie.

Got what data bruh
The data to develop the game for the full release. Do you honestly think that Valve gives any care in the world for data based on 5k-15k playerbase in a playtest that basically has not seen a huge balance patch since December?
They got data on what players like or dislike it's why they changed their update schedule. If they cared for hard data numbers we wouldn't have this forum.

Explain to me what "the data to develop the game for the full release" is.

Explain to me how garbage in = quality out.

Explain how valve "doesn't care" but also "cares" because "data they have".

Make your words make sense, please.

The feedback and data they got prior to December. They literally told you in the post that they are changing their update schedule because they can't develop the game properly with a bi-weekly patch schedule.

I'm not a native English speaker, so your 2nd point does 't read as anything.

Because there is very little data in pure numbers and such to be extracted from the current game with the current amount of people playing. They already got a lot of data when the nda was lifted.
You got a forum to post feedback and suggestions about stuff. You could have simply wrote this in the gameplay section, since it makes you so irritated, but chose to write it her for some bizarre reason.

Again, this isn't an issue that can be fixed without new players coming in and the game leaving this hidden invite only format.
