T1 upgrade into trophy collector

The item collects stacks like trophy collector up to a max of 6 but does not give any bonuses for each stack.

Trophy collector feels really awkward to buy because ideally you want to buy it early on to get stacks and souls. But 3200 souls early on is a big chuck of your net worth so when you get it there are almost no stats on it to help you get kills and assists and you just feel very useless. Stacking trophy collector feels very unreliable. This item could help with that as if you get some kills early on you can choose to upgrade to trophy collector and if you don't get kills you can sell and lose 400 souls. The item has the same risk as trophy collector in that you are going to be behind the enemy in item value and try to kill them but to a lesser extent.

Maybe its too op and snowbally though. I could see everyone just rushing this and whoever wins lane gets free trophy collector stacks so perhaps it could be a T2?.

A big reason why Trophy Collector works is because it's a big purchase that is basically a nothing burger early on. You build it with the expectation that you are trading in an advantage that you have now for a bigger advantage later.

Part of what you have to consider when you get Trophy Collector is that you are picking up an item that isn't going to give you value right now. Trophy Collector is a long term investment that you make when you are ahead and can be reasonably certain that you are going to get those stacks (via kills or assists). The math is... complicated but basically as long as you can hit 10 stacks with at least 10 minutes left to the match the item has paid for itself (or at least the upgrade from Sprint Boots) on top of adding some decent value otherwise. EVERY minute after that is huge gains for you. If you get to 16 stacks that's right around 350 souls per minute.

It really doesn't need to get early stacks because the item itself is a big "Win more" item. If you could get it early it would become something of a mandatory purchase for anyone getting an advantage in lane.

I agree with this, a T1 item that upgrades into Trophy Collector wouldn't make too much sense in my eyes
