Sophia Ailanthus Altissima [Swift-Footed - Hard To Catch - Surprise]

ADVANTAGES: Unmatched control over her own positioning and the positioning of others.
DISADVANTAGES: Below average base damage and range.

Weapon - Faire Fight [Rapid Fire - Short Range]

A mix of mild sleeping dust and poisons, blown from the palm of her hand. Mediocre ammo and short effective range encourages you to duck in, deal your burst of damage, and then slip back to reload. Fires in a continuous shot like Bebop's weapon.

(4) Twining Vines [ULT]

Shoot out a long vine and swing with it, flying through the air when you hit the ground or pulling yourself straight towards allies or enemies. Starts at 2 Charges.
[+1] Grappled enemies are Cursed for the ability's duration (CITATION: The ability pulls Sophia in extremely fast, making this a brief but nevertheless important period. Never more than a couple seconds even at max range.)
[+2] Increased Cast Range
[+5] Regain all Stamina upon use

Background

A young occultist who found herself arrested after she tried- and failed horribly- to turn New York City into "a nice forest with a few cute little cottages." Thankfully for her, her imprisonment coincided with the failed execution of a fellow rule-breaking mystic, giving her the perfect opportunity to slip out in the chaos. Now she bides her time, waiting for the perfect opportunity to make her vision a reality- and then move on to her home in New Jersey to do much the same. There's so much magic in the world- why is it still full of such big, ugly buildings and machines?

In spite of what she claims, Sophia is not an elf, fairy, or any variety of mystical or extraplanar being. She just wears fake ears and throws glitter in her hair.

Character Interactions

  • At large, other Heroes are frequently offput or mildly annoyed by her. Much of the cast are exceptions to this, however.
  • Looks up to Seven as a fellow rule-breaking mystic, and the indirect reason she's free.
  • Respects Vyper as a "fellow jailbreaker" in spite of only having broken out once herself. Also don't look up definitions for "cottage."
  • Respects Billy as an anarchist! Hell to the yea!
  • Has a one-sided sense of solidarity with Ivy.
  • Likes Paige's stories and general sense of whimsy and fantasy. Their aesthetics line up somewhat!
  • Hates Bebop and Dynamo for being all "ugly" and "machine-y." Victor vaguely gets lumped into this category too.
  • Hates Infernus for using fire and Kelvin for using ice.
  • Thinks The Doorman and his Baroness Hotel are both ugly and gross.
  • Oblivious and uncaring to who Lash is to a comical degree. She's not even upset by him, his words just kind of. Breeze right over her.

Additional Notes

"Ailanthus altissima," or tree-of-heaven/ailanthus tree, is a famously invasive tree in North America with a role in the life cycle of the Spotted Lanternfly- a similarly invasive bug. I like to think she picked the name herself to be fancy and mystical without realizing this.

Intended combo: Twining Vines -> Lunging Lanternfly allows you to pull yourself to an enemy and then drag them away with you. What if a girl who says the word "cottagecore" out loud at least three times a day came out of nowhere and decided you were in the middle of the enemy team now?
