Shield Break item need

With the addition of Paige, and how strong Spirit Shielding can be, I think a shield break item to counter the stacking spam would be very helpful.

It's hard to focus someone when they have their own barriers on top of Paige's or even Doorman's portal shields.

A couple options that come to mind:
  • Cracks shields, makes them less effective
  • Shield piercing for a set time period
  • Increased damage against shields
  • Some sort of active or item effect that when applied removes barriers from the target
I'm finding it increasingly difficult to apply consistent damage as spirit heroes when the burst is completely negated by barrier spam.

An item already exists that has an active removing all non-ultimate buffs from an enemy, including barriers:

Another method I personally enjoy is using items like Curse and Silence Wave on Paige, which prevents her from casting her abilities for a short duration.

Yes I was specifically referring to dealing spirit damage, as I was aware of this item active. I also think a 3200 option for shield break would be useful, not a 6400 item that needs heavy investment specifically for a select few gun carry heroes.

You listed off mostly 6400 level items aside from silence wave, which seems like kind of a crazy investment to deal with 1 characters basic abilities. I'm not sure why you think this is a good response, instead of having more counter building options in the game. But appreciate the reply I suppose.

I suppose in my experience I am used to investing in 3200 items to counter individual enemies, like Knockdown for Talon, Vindicta, Lash, etc, Disarming for Haze, Wraith, Vyper, etc, so I did not give much consideration that it would be a high investment for others.

However, the point of more countering is something I agree with, and had a thought come to mind:

What if instead of a new item, healing reduction also reduced the percentage of shield received?

As an example:

Healbane's 35% healing reduction would also reduce the amount of shields received by 35%.

This would open up a fair amount of counter play with a larger variety of items, rather than forcing one new item to be a permanent slot-in.

Can I ask where I said 3200 was a lot to invest? I'm pretty sure I said "I think a 3200 item would be useful" in contrast to a 6400 item. I more so had issue with the 6400 gun item required to counter shield spam and an individual champ kit, as my post stated.

Noted.

Do you have any commentary on the remainder of my reply?

I'll re-post it here for your convenience:

Please provide feedback on the concept. I would love to hear your thoughts and have a constructive dialogue on the topic.

I could imagine a version where healbane reduces shielding received. I do think that would make the item a mandatory purchase, though I get heal reduction pretty much already is in some fashion. I also imagine that would just put an incredible amount of strength on a 1600 value item, but maybe it upgrades to a 3200, and it gains the shield reduction or something, not totally sure.

I also wonder if its a situation maybe even outside of items with shield spams, such as shields applied to the same target are less effective? I will confess I have not crunched the numbers so I don't know if shield values perfectly stack, but if Paige, applies one of her barriers, than Guardian Ward, then Spirit Shielding procs, I feel like they should become less effective with each application, or not last as long, etc , not perfectly stack if they do currently.

I do feel like even if it is an add on for a few additional items, there may need to be some specific items to deal with shield spam themselves.
