Screen turns grey when getting an assist

Sometimes when getting an assist, the player's screen turns grey, the exact same effect that happens when a player gets killed in game, but for some reason is triggered for players who get the assist as well.

The only similarities on both videos is that I was playing Paige and was casting something at the time that it occurs (video 1 was casting Plot Armor, and video 2 was Divine Barrier), where in normal use cases it causes the screen to become a faint grey to show the area of effect of the item/ability being cast, so it might have something to do with that.
