Rem's helper ability is a strange in-between of a targeted ability and a skillshot. You can always use the ability to "shoot out" a helper, but if you're not actually targeting anything it still "casts," (makes the noise, Rem does the animation, ability goes on cooldown) but no helpers are used up. This can be very aggravating because if I'm looking down into my opponent's garage, for example, and I try to put my helpers on their Sinners, I can just slightly miss, not actually put my helpers on anything, and then my ability goes on cooldown so I have to wait the five seconds for it to come off so I can try again. This is also really annoying in fights because if I have a helper on one person but I see it's about to come off, I want to be able to mash the ability so I can put another one on them right as it drops off to make sure they have the spirit resist. In hectic fights, I can't always see the little buff icons above peoples' heads to know exactly when my helper is going to fall off.
I was going to say that this issue feels like it happens most of the time, but not all of the time. After testing this in the tool, I believe what is happening is that the targeting for the Helpers is going way outside the bounds of what is shown to be my targeting circle. In the attached image you can see how I'm aiming up at the building with no valid targets in my targeting circle, yet my ability is still 'locked on' to the golden statue.
I would prefer the aiming for my helpers be much more tight, or at least bound to the circle that I'm being shown, so I can more accurately place my helpers.
