Push to talk causes Bluetooth sound quality to drop

I assume this is to do with Bluetooth sound-microphone-bandwidth, so may not even be fixable, but it was jarring none the less.

Hardware:
  • Apple AirPods 2nd Generation
Steps:
  • Pair via Bluetooth
  • Load Deadlock
  • Audio sounds normal
  • Press push to talk hotkey
Results
  • Game stutters and audio becomes very poor quality for a long period of time after the push to talk key was released.

That's your Bluetooth headset switching from A2DP mode (High quality, stereo, output only) to HFP mode (low quality, mono, mic supported). Windows automatically switches the bluetooth mode when the microphone is needed.
