Playtesting on Omarchy (on controller)

So im fairly familiar with linux in general and i recently been trying out omarchy. Theres a bit of an issue -- one this game while really fun and in some sense addicting; your team mates dont know how new you are or whether youre on controller. I get that there isnt full support, but i think it would be helpful if your team mates could tell. I just got banned too probably because my KD reflected that but also because sometimes the distro does crash, and the game boots with a kind of hack because of hyperland. My main thing is-- controller works decent, but sometimes i have to manually 'learn' the ultimate , and upgrade abilites with the mouse pad/keyboard putting the controller down and reaching over to my laptop-- which
oddly enough is connected to the occasional crash. if the light goes out on my controller i know my laptop went down.

Again though, its silly to expect a controller player, at this early stage in the game to be doing as well as OG playtesters-- my teammates should know that so when i reconnect after the rare-ish crash their expectations that ill pull 20 kills late game on doorman are tempered. The game gets intense and peoples attitudes reflect that.

my team mates should know that at the very least im on controller and this is my second week playing-- and not have to get banned because i couldnt miraculously win the game for them

that being said if it were an interest to the developers-- i think full-controller support could work like just a small amount of magnetism not alot. Its important that your team mates know how youre playing and what to expect; Deadlock's way too intense and competitive for that not to be the case.

First of all you most likely weren't banned because of your K/D ratio it was probably because of your crashing issue. Secondaly you can manually level up your abilities with the controller by binding a button to the game action "Scoreboard" and then using Modeshift for the face buttons to be Upgrade Ability (downgrading ability will still require the use of a mouse as Valve have not implemented a game action for downgrading them so try to practice not making upgrade mistakes in heat of the action)

If you aren't seeing these sort of configuration I am suggesting then start your controller config by using Valve's official provided layout on Steam's Controller Layout settings. You may need to then tweak it and sort out little oddities like some Game Actions not existing in certain sub menus so binding certain things to a key press instead can solve it until Valve improves the official support but you can play a full match with a controller without being stuck from lack of options.

I play with a controller, I started taking it a lot more seriously a few months ago and now I feel very comfortable with controller but I use gyro aim and flick stick which Valve natively supports so the right stick instead of controlling the camera vertically and horizontally, flick stick only controls the horizontal axis so "flicking" the stick will turn your character 90/180 degrees, holding it and spinning lets you turn 360 degrees. I also bind Gyro Off with Joystick Deflection so when I "flick" the gyro is turned off until I release the right stick.

So the aiming feels like a mouse and I can turn as fast as a mouse can and probably faster with how short of a throw flick stick requires to turn 180 degrees.

The game most likely will never have aim assist unless Valve expands this to the consoles so gyro aim is the best way to be as precise as a mouse, if you're not used to this it can feel very uncomfortable so by starting with a slow game like Portal can be a good start to get used to it. I use 8bitdo's Ultimate 2 Wireless but you'll need Windows to update the firmware as Valve has recently officially supported the controller when it's updated.

The new Steam Controller 2026 will be perfect for both Linux and Windows users when they are finally ready to order.

Sorry that you get banned but make sure you look into that crashing issue and take care.
