Performance problems over time in a match

For some months now (before the first 6 new heroes patch) I've been dealing with a problem where at the start and for about 1/3 of a match my game will run smoothly with no problems but then, at some point (I haven't been able to pinpoint a specific thing that would cause this), the game will start tanking FPS if I'm looking towards specific directions (Sometimes it's the enemy base, mid, own base,... Most commonly mid or enemy base), not looking at these directions makes the game run better .

This will persist and worsen throughout the match but leaving and reconnecting will fix the problem for some time (again, this "time" varies a lot and isn't consistent to events occurring in the map), I've messed with various graphic settings and different other apps open or closed on my pc and nothing seems to really affect it, during these slowdowns all my PC's resources are fine, none are being pushed to 100% use.

Specs:
- RTX 3060 Ti
- AMD Ryzen 5 7600/Intel i5 10600KF (Switched recently to the AMD, problem started on the i5)
- 32 GB RAM
- Game is downloaded to a WD Black SN770

Attached examples of this happening, FPS counter also seemed to be stuck on 11FPS

Yooo, I just have reported the same bug lmfao, we have the same GPU (Zotac Twin Edge)

Although in my case my FPS issues are way worse, going to single digits FPS and my whole windows lagging until i force close the game

Adding some extra examples. After some more testing the time when the first slowdowns start occurring seems to be from minute 15 of a match onward

Glad I am not the only one. I'll be in lane with 70-80fps and as the game goes on I get to about 30-40fps. Makes it so unplayable and it sucks because I love this game. I've done all the things to set the game up for success and run great but in the end... it doesnt even matter.

My frames will be alright, but occasionally it will fully ice out my computer, doesn't even respond to the power button.

btw, after testing, this happens also on linux too, which is a bit different (it drops then fixes, also textures and icons lower their quality a lot) i will try with rebar enabled on linux later

If the lag happens when you move mouse or use key inputs, its the good ol steam recording/overlay (well i dont know if it is specifically the recording bug, but this started happening after valve pushed updates that included the steam recording feature) bug where for some reason steam polls too often and collects huge amount of input data until it starts to lag out.

I had this long time ago, and also have it again now. Some solutions suggest trying turning steam overlay off, some suggest turning it on...i have no clue wtf is valve doing.

P.S.
Above might be outdated info and is not actually root cause of current issues, because those videos posted by others look insanely laggy.

This completely fixed it for me! Thank you so much!!

I just hope @Yoshi or someone from Valve sees this and rings back to HQ and whips someone who worked on steam recording feature, its a source of lag that can be caused in any game on steam, its just horribly bad for business (I would seriously pull out the entire feature until its fixed because imagine what this does for business if millions of your clients now get laggy games in steam, and most clients wont even know what is the cause of lag and thus no reports are generated for Valve to be aware)

just to be clear, you dont need to record anything to get the lag, even if you disable or are not even aware steam recording exists, it still can cause lag, heck, you can disable steam overlay entirely and it can still cause lag, because the input polling keeps working in background and memory leaking. (assassumption)

It's a shame because I actually quite like the recording feature! Definitely not worth making my game completely unplayable though. The difference before and after turning replay off is actually night and day.

The recording should only function when you are actually recording. Problem is that some features of recording work even if you are not recording, over time resulting in a huge lag.

I too enjoy steam's recording feature and use it a lot when reporting bugs, but IT MUST be improved.

It's definitely not just steam recording, because about 60% of the time the feature crashes with an error when I start Deadlock and I still have the issue where after 20-25 minutes my framerate will randomly tank from like a solid 60-70 to a cap of about 15, sometimes as low as 5, which can only be fixed by a reconnect. Often happens at the start of teamfights, whether I'm participating in them or not.

Have you completely disabled the feature ? Through steam settings.
