This is mainly for the patron but I thought it could be a fun idea for the rest of the objectives in the game. I think it would be a fun idea for all players to interact with at any level. Casual players can thoroughly enjoy the progression of defeating the objectives and grow even at a low level. I think even a player that's never taken a guardian could sense the progression and challenge towards reaching the patron with this kind of mechanic.
So what am I talking about? Specifically making the patron a raid boss. What is my idea of a raid boss you might be wondering. I'm suggesting giving the patron attack animations and mechanics making it a final comeback mechanic and a mini boss fight. Nothing too difficult or hard to deal with, but something interesting to watch and play around. My idea would be an aoe low damage dot aura that has a mini stun for 1 target that enters the aura and every 5 seconds after to a random enemy player inside of the aura. I think this alone would make the patron more intriguing and alluring for new players to try to conquer and also incentivise good gameplay while remixing the default moba objectives most moba players are used to.
I think it's time to make the objectives a bit more active, why only let them sit around and shoot lasers? Now this is where I started thinking this idea would be great for walkers and guardians as well. Adding more animations and different easy to read attacks for them. Nothing too complicated because the game can be overwhelming for new players, but something that attracts a new player to want to fight the guardian more than a player. The guardians could taunt with voices, little random attacks they may throw into lane every 2 to 3 minutes (Ideas: Throws a dot on a player in lane, CC on a player, reveals the player with the highest networth in lane, heals a player, etc) . Something that makes them more than a static piece that shoots a laser. Just like my patron suggestion, they could have a new mechanic such as a cleave on a 5 second cooldown and some more interesting attack animations outside of shooting a laser. We can keep the consistent damage of the lasers, but it doesn't have to look like a laser attacking the player right? Maybe even styles of guardians for each lane, same mechanics, but different looks and animations.
Overall, my idea may not be perfect, but I think anyone can get the idea I'm going for. I think this would make the objectives more alluring, attract players to naturally want to push towards defeating guardians, walkers, and make more players experienced with the PvE/objective aspects of the game. I think even a new player could see a base guardian with cool animations/style and understand that it is something they need to destroy.
Anyway, hope someone likes this idea. I think it would take Deadlock to the next level and this seems to be a natural progression for the moba genre to evolve into.
P.S.: Thinking about the voice part of the objectives as well, they could talk to the players more. Thanking the players for their protection, death screams that really make players feel bad about losing their towers, taunting enemies as I suggested earlier, suggestions for the player to push when troopers are near, asking for protection, and making aggressive taunts/trash talk to the opposite objective incentivising the player to push. The guardians could literally be guardians, protecting the player by suggesting proper gameplay and keeping them focused on objectives by asking the player to defend them etc. Unique voices for each guardian/walker would also help players better understand which lane needs help when the game makes call outs, players will be more familiar with the guardian/walker in their specific lanes and be more attentive to their cry for help etc.
Furthermore, there could eventually even be buffs that these guardians/walkers generate if they've been upheld for a long time, maybe a soul generation buff for the team. This would help accelerate games and also incentivise people to push and protect their guardians/walkers as they become an investment.
Plus these would be new characters and lore that could be added to the game, skins and customization... Money.
This would breathe another layer of life into the world.
