On rare occasion my game would crash while I load into a match. This happened twice before the Old Gods New Blood update on the same day causing a 2 hour ban. After the first time it happened the second time I managed to get into the game quick enough for it to not get canceled but I was still considered a leaver by the game so I got penalized as if I abandoned the match despite me being there and playing it until the very end.
After the Old Gods New Blood update crashes almost never occurred and when they did happen I wouldn't get penalized at all. As of writing this post however it has happened twice during the same play session with one game running normally in-between. Once again, I got penalized for crashing during the loading phase the first time and being too late to rejoin and then once again managing to join back the second time but the game still being flagged with a red mark indicating someone left the match even though everyone was in it including myself. The match didn't count, despite me winning the match it was considered a loss and I'm only aware of this because I de-ranked after the match. Oddly enough it wasn't counted as a played match, I distinctively remember being at my 600th game and this should have been the 601st.
I can understand it must be infuriating when you have a player leave the match and directly impact your chances at winning, those people should be penalized. I should not be penalized before the match even starts for something I can't help myself. The game almost never crashes and yet the times it does I get penalized for it even though I didn't intend on leaving the game. Even if I for some reason did leave the game I don't understand why I should be penalized considering the game didn't take place. I even distinctly remember one time when I purposefully closed the game during a long loading screen because one of my friends had just gotten on the game and wanted to play, so I left to join them. I didn't get penalized for that, and that was during the Old Gods New Blood update.
I hope the system gets changed so that you don't get a penalty when you "abandon" a game that never even properly took place. In a game like League of Legends where you can at the very least see the matchup you're up against as well as your teammates I could understand a system like this being needed. I don't understand why Deadlock needs this system in place during the loading screen of all things, it may be a waste of time to wait in a queue just to be forced to wait again because someone couldn't join but it isn't like you can gain some advantage from leaving on purpose besides slightly wasting peoples time.
I also don't understand why the team gets a red mark and not a green mark. If someone were to truly abandon the game this early but the game still somehow went through, wouldn't it make more sense to have the team be able to leave the match? Are you telling me that I would "abandon" the game from the very first second and my teammates don't even get the courtesy of being allowed to leave the game without it counting as a loss? Forcing them in a 5v6 unless they want a loss?
The last match I played before I got banned for 2 hours had the ID 59171675 and I was playing Mina. I hope this gets resolved in some way soon.
Valve pls fix.
