The first 20 hours of playing this game, I had no problems playing at the default settings it came with, somewhere around High, at 170 - 200fps. Fast forward to the last few days, I can no longer play at these same settings. I experience absolutely insane lag on any character at all points in the match to the point where I can visually count the frames per second. Looks like around 5fps at times. But here is the weird part, the steam overlay fps counter says I am getting 170-200fps and the bottom right corner ingame deadlock fps counter also says the same thing of 170-200fps. I also have a ping of around 30ms and it is not a network lag but appears exactly as how a regular client sided fps lag would.
And it gets even weirder... when I hit esc in the game and it pulls up the transparent menu on the game, the lag VANISHES even though the settings are unchanged and I can see everything happening behind the screen. It looks like it would at 170+fps. But once I leave the esc menu, within a few seconds it goes back to lagging TERRIBLY.
CPU Usage is normal, <50% and GPU Usage is at 100% when in esc menu and when not in esc menu. Task manager shows nothing out of the normal. VRAM is well below the 16GB of VRAM on the 4080 and system RAM is below half of my available RAM.
This is the only game on my PC that has this behavior, I have tried restarting and closing out of everything except for deadlock. I have tried updating every driver known to man and verifying files. The issue persists.
The ONLY way to remedy the lag is to drop the render resolution down to around 50% or less to the point where it's a blurry mess.
Not sure what is happening! And I did make sure my monitor is connected to the 4080, that the 4080 is showing utilization in task manager, and that the utilization of the 4080, CPU, ram, and vram does not differ much from when it was working much better at higher settings.
UPDATE:
Vulkan was the issue. I've never had problems before of running games on vulkan and many times it would improve my fps, but this time turning Vulkan rendering on in the video settings was problematic for this specific game.
Switching back to DirextX and restarting the game allows me to play with max or near max settings and 120-200 FPS without the weird 5 fps feeling!
Vulkan is BROKEN for me and needs to be looked into
