If someone is cracked enough to do this on purpose then they should be rewarded for that. (just like people counterspelling big spirit damage) That doesnt mean her ult needs to go on full 180s or 140s cooldown. They can either kill her while shes low and stunned or simply move out of her very short point blank ult range.
Its not punishment for "mistiming" when youre the one that ulted first and they have enough time to react to it. They need to either reduce the "channeling" time so you cant react to it, or keep it and put the cooldown on a couple seconds. Not getting ulted and being able to get away is already the "reward" for your amazing reaction time. Making her ult go on full cooldown is unnecessarily punishing and it deincentivises Geist players to try to get an effective ult off (with precise timing, hp, movment, positioning etc). when her entire kit is self puishing to start with.
Also the channeling window is not 0.2 seconds, its about 500-600ms. What it says the duration in the description of the ult is the actual duration of the ult once its already worked, not the channeling time. Channeling time for most heroes ults isnt stated anywhere in game apart from patch notes if changes are made.
You can already "counter" her ult by just not being point blank range from her when shes 30% health. Its already nerfed to oblivion.
and you might say "well a lot of heroes have channeling time for their ult that could be cancelled and put on full cd, why should geist be treated any different?"
Because her ult is played fundamentally differently than any other heros. Only a small set of heroes would/could use ult in order to survive a skirmish and/or escape (kelvin, calico, ivy for example. All of which have OTHER uses for their ult, ie the effectivness of their ult isnt solely contingent upon them being low hp and vulnerable/easy to kill.
When a warden or bebop, haze seven, any other heroes ult is cancelled it sucks but its not life or death for that hero, theyre not going to warpstone/double dash or pop out from a veil in the middle of a fight on low hp to use their ult and RELY on that ult to be able to continue fighting, so its no big deal for their ult to be cancelled, theyre not going to immidiately die, its not throwing for them to try to ult.
Punishing geist player for trying to make proper effective use of the ult and make a play is stupid and most importantly extremely unfun.
Basically theyre saying "dont bother trying to use her ult, dont bother using any of her abilities" which is why gun builds have been meta on geist for the last 6 months.
People are too scared of the insane self damage, the self slow on life drain and how useless the ult is so they just ignore her abilties and focus on gun.
Thats a sad place for a hero to be imo.
